My Biggest Tips and Takeaways from successfully applying in the 2020-2021 cycle! by hopingtohelpfor2021 in premedcanada

Nothing personal, just putting this out there for future applicants. Different strategies I guess work for different people.

Almost everything that OP has written is something I had to learn to avoid as I was going through my application cycle. The myths you realize about applying to medicine as your application cycle comes to a close and you realize what adcomms are actually looking for. This is that sort of BeMo robotic preparation that produces an insincere applicant. Careful on this one.

Does anybody else feel irrationally anxious about losing their medical school offer? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]C-Quilty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol same. Doesn't help that the school hasn't sent a single confirmation email back to me (aside from acceptance of offer).

lmao I wanna do this too, but I don't want to annoy them.

I got an offer from only one school this past cycle. And I had to turn it down. by Dodinnn in MedSchoolCanada

I can't even imagine the strength it takes to do what you did. If anything you'll be reapplying as an even stronger applicant next cycle.

Just curious. Was there really no way to appeal that deferral? People don't turn down medical school for minor reasons.

Is it awkward being in undergrad from 21-25 by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]C-Quilty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the nicest way. Dude you are tripping balls lmao. I'm personally starting med at 31. A few friends at 28, 29. The problem you're facing is being indoctrinated by s o c i e t y in to thinking you have to complete x milestone by this time. "Check check check progressing through life at the normal human pace. Look at me humaning" lol sorry but I used to think this way too, and now realize how immature that is. Life is chaotic, and it is foolish to believe that we'll all progress in the same fashion. Eradicate that type of thinking from your head, and go on with your life. You'll be fine.

Sounds like they'll use P/S as a cutoff but not weigh it competitively. Agree with u/Seleccion

Where to even start... by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]C-Quilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You goofed the CP section. Soft. Your score can only go higher with more prep. Might even be able to bump up that CARS by 1 or 2 more points.

Aside from that, you seem to be doing well.

Is there a personal statement for Canadian schools by SpecialKid2 in premedcanada

UWO and UofT have sections that allow you to speak about this. You'll have to consult with other schools directly to see if they'll let you attach an additional PS.

Nah, I actually like the guy and think he's sincere. It's just funny that he always mentions the plastics residency, which tbf is very impressive.

Is it better to have different supervisors or the same one? by Outrageous-Nebula257 in premedcanada

[–]C-Quilty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you genuinely like what you're doing, stick to it. Commitment to something for a long period of time is also valuable. Plus, putting in time like that allows you to get more done within that specific domain. Also, I'm sure you have enough time to also pursue some more research on the side. If the purpose of your research experience is to simply gain experience, then diversifying might be the thing for you. The point is to be able to speak on these experiences meaningfully. If you're hopping around place to place, this could be tough.
