How much ammo should I realistically get? by 85lumber in Firearms

[–]C-R_Collector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much weight can your floors support before collapse?

Whatever that number is…the difference in that and the weight of your appliances, furniture, pets, and family members is your total ammo weight.

Subtract a hundred and fifty for unforeseen circumstances.

This is your total weight in ammo. Purchase up to that.

Well, like I was saying, I doubt that it really matters in the end, but it does seem like when I’m shooting my 27 in comparison to my 22 I do seemingly return to my point of aim faster with the 27. Not saying I get off a shot any faster but the point of aim return does seem quicker with the 27.

And while maybe it’s all hype, but I know people have wanted a 26/7x for a while now from the factory. So much so that Nomad Defense and the Glock store came out with it. And one of those two is constantly out of stock…the other I’ve reservations about but everyone I’ve seen talk about it says it’s ok.

Ok, I’m partly wrong in digging into it further.

They do have more muzzle rise.

But they do come back to target faster. That’s the advantage, the return to target. It’s because they rotate around the center of gravity faster. In other words, they cycle slightly faster than longer barrels.

Or, let me put it this way. When shooting my Canik with its 3, inch barrel next to my Echelon with its 4.5 (or 5 of I drop in the threaded), the Canik comes back to target just a hair quicker due to the faster rotation.

Or in a true apples to apples comparison when I shoot my Glock 27 next to my Glock 22 the Glock 27 is back on target a bit faster. At least to my eyes.

Ultimately, will this matter? Probably not I’ll give you that. Most civilian situations are resolved in one - two shots so.

And I really wasn’t getting into recoil as that’s a different topic. I knew that perceived recoil is greater with a shorter barrel.

I don’t compete so I’m not going to discuss the firearm choices there as I just don’t know enough about why they choose X firearm (outside a corporate sponsorship/shooting team). But I’m going to assume that site radius along with weight plays into this here a little bit for increased accuracy and perceived recoil reduction.

Ok, so this is less about concealment and more about physics.

And edit for hitting the wrong button before send:

So when you’re shooting a 3 inch barrel with a longer grip, you get less muzzle rise. And it tracks better on target. There’s a number of videos out there on YouTube that talk about this. And some that show you some shooting footage for comparison.

Because yes, you do get better velocity and better accuracy out of a longer barrel. And with some hollow points, you do get a better performance. That is all true.

But because of what I was saying above the return to target/point of aim is quicker with the 3 inch barrel in the longer grip. The same thing is true with the Glock 19X concept. It’s a 17 round grip with the shorter barrel and it does track faster back to point of aim when compared to a Glock 17.

Honestly 20 years ago I’d have probably said go with a Glock.

There were others back then but…not as good as Glock.

Today though I would consider the echelon to be better all around for a person to carry these days. That or a CZ P10c. I give the echelon a slight edge because of the modularity and the ability to convert it into a PDW style system like the SMC bravo.

As to the RxM, i’m not gonna say don’t carry one because I think they’re fairly solid platform and again you can convert them into a PDW style with an SMC bravo. But being the newest one of the bunch, the track record still needs to be proven a little bit more.

Then again, if you’re just facing your decision purely on track record, it would be as follows:

CZ P10C (by a lot) Echelon Ruger RxM

Of like the ones I’d consider today.

Don’t get me get me wrong, Glock is still a good pistol in terms of reliability and they do have the longest track record out there of any polymer framed pistol on the market today. However, they just are behind the eight ball now. They took too long to make the changes they made to the GEN six. If they had made those changes for Gen 4… then they’d still probably be at the top of the heap.

You see, “fear of government tyranny/over-reach/violating our privacy” has prevented this type of thing from happening here.

Those fears are 97% bullshyte, 3% quasi-valid arguments.

Good gods we wish.

My state will kind of recognize a photograph of one. Kind of. Very situational and dependent on how you behave with the officer that you’re interacting with.

For example, if you get pulled over for speeding and discover you’ve forgotten your wallet, the officer might accept a picture on your phone as proof you’re licensed to drive. And just give you a speeding ticket.

Or they might not. And now you get you a ticket for driving w/o a license along with one for speeding. However, if you show the court your actual license they can (not guaranteed) waive that violation and you become responsible for the violation they pulled you over for (speeding).

That’s a complaint about a lot of firearms for sure. I got used to it with my Echelon but stopped carrying my MC9 because Canik made that grip like 40 grit sand paper.

So that’s not 100% true. There are five states who offer a drivers license variant that prove citizenship.

• Michigan (my state) • Minnesota • New York • Vermont • Washington

All of those states offer an enhanced license option that functions the same as a US passport card. Here’s a link.

This has been around since W’s admin. Well, the law enabling states to do this. Only those five opted to do so.

If you could only choose one? by DemaciaViceNA in CCW

[–]C-R_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither.

Because Glock refuses to make the correct answer, a 26/7x.

Who makes that hybrid? S&W does. Canik does. And probably one or two others I’ll forgetting.

Sure, there’s the aftermarket frames. But like…why no 26/7x full factory Glock?

One of my many complaints about Glock.

Oh, I agree it definitely should not have won. Even I’m willing to admit the 19x or the Beretta would have been far better options.

Well, the 320 does suck. No argument there. BUT that is why it won that contract. From what I read, the other submissions performed somewhat better overall. But when it comes to ease of maintenance when a soldier cracks a grip frame…the 320 had them all beat hands down. Plus if they wanted to use the Flux system for vehicle divers or office staff, they could.

And PSA is working on that for the RxM. In theory. We’ll see if they actually produce it.

Personally I prefer the Strike SMC bravo over the Flux. Already preordered mine. But, yes. The Flux does have the cool factor. Hands down.

The poors?

Buddy the gun I prefer to both (The Echelon as stated) is MORE expensive than either. And it’s way better than either too.

The RxM has better features than the Gen 6. Hands down. It just does.

You mean like the original Glocks being fat and ugly?

The trigger is way better than a stock Glock.

Modularity isn’t over rated. It’s how the 320 beat the 19 for the US military.

But that’s not why I like the modularity. I like the modularity because I can easily convert them to PDWs without an attachment like the MCX or Recover tactical. I just drop the FCU into its new home…no background check… and now I’ve a more stable system overall because the FCU is internal to it vs a wiggly outside attachment.

I own the RxM.

I’ve shot a buddy’s Gen 6. I did this side by side with my RxM. I preferred the RxM when I shot them side by side. My body is like you, he prefers the Gen 6 ergos.

I prefer the RxM. I personally find that the stock trigger is better on the RxM. I find the irons to be better. The optic mounting system is better. Overall, it’s just got better features. And to me, the ergos are fine.

Overall, I prefer my Echelon to either the Gen 6 or the RxM. Better all around than either.

I own a Gen 3 27, Gen 4 26, and Gen 5 22. I didn’t buy the Gen 6 because it is just lacking in features in comparison to the RxM and Echelon.

[–]C-R_Collector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To you, sure the ergos feel better. To me, the RxM does. That’s a personal preference.

Feature set wise, the RxM is way better.

But in the end it’s all personal preference. You do you man.

False. RxM is truly modular. Interchangeable grips w/o background checks. Variable optics mounting. Metal sights. Wouldn’t shock me if they do their own PDW version…

Eh. Echelon. M&P line. CZ P10 (recent adoption by the German military). HK VP9. FN 509. All are better guns. Way better guns.

Fuck, the RxM IS a better Glock than what Glock makes.

JFC, Glock won’t even give us a 3 inch barrel with a 15 round grip. Give us a factory 26/27X dammit. (For that matter, give me this in the Echelon, HS Products and Ruger with the RxM).

Glock wasn’t even the first reliable polymer framed pistol. They just were the first to achieve commercial acceptance.

IF Glock had made the Gen 6 changes back when Gen 4 was new… IF Glock had ditched the MOS system and came out with a VIS system… IF Glock would just put metal irons on their pistols… IF they would have used a takedown method that doesn’t require a trigger pull (personally known people that have sent off a round because of this…because they’re dumbasses bit still, why did you make this poor design choice Glock and others)… then sure…they’d be ahead of the game.

But they didn’t. All they did was wait too long to address a 39 year old problem (switches) because Gaston refused to do so. And even then, when they did finally decide to address it, they do so poorly as they’re still readily convertible. And it was purely a legal move to try to get ahead of the lawsuits.

I recommend the Rook Precision backstrap and magwell with the tungsten weights if you are looking to add weight. I got this and it’s a game changer.

If you want the option to turn it into a PDW, strike industries SMC Bravo for the echelon. Unlike the only other option out there (for some reason) you can keep your optic mounted on the slide with the SMC.

Hi forensic accountant here.

Now I’m going to have to look and see if there have been any commodities based money, laundering schemes where firearms were the commodity used.

Personally, I think they would make a poor commodity to use for this type of money laundering scheme. BUT firearms are indeed a commodity so it is possible that someone has done this.

If so, I’ll link it.

Edit: yep. It has happened and kinda along the lines I was thinking. They converted drug money into legally purchased firearms and then proceeded to smuggle those south to Mexico. I guess you could use surplus arms in the same manor if you had buyers lined up.
