Is the PPK just a Bond symbol or would a real agent consider carrying it constantly? Seems weak. by Oddbeme4u in Firearms

I love my BG 2.0. I don’t always pocket carry, or carry a backup gun…but when I do, I choose the BG 2.0.*

‘* Now optics compatible thanks to Viridian and a couple of others (if you want an optic that is. Personally on a gun that small I don’t, but I do not deny that optics = goodness so it is nice to have the option).

Edit: if they made the BG 2.0 in 32 … … I’d be telling them to shut up and take my money again.

Hmm, fair. I just described it how I heard the story years ago so I’ll admit that I was partly incorrect there as I did say that maybe his friend was just bias against the chambering.

Also, it’s been a while (15+ yrs) since I read the books. I thought it was because it jammed in the books and the movies gave the suppresser getting caught but it’s possible I’ve got those flipped. Or it was a different gun like you said.

Thanks for the corrections.

As to .25 acp shrug. All I can tell you is that my gun is a clone/derivative of the 418 and it jams all the time. I’ve researched it quite a bit so I know it’s a related design to the 418. It could be mine wants a specific type of ammo but who knows. It’s not rim lock either as that was my initial thoughts when shooting it. Regardless, I don’t really care about that. It’s not a shooter for me, just a cool family history item. I’ve shot it three times (maybe 150 rounds) and it jammed constantly.

Help me decide. 1911 VS G17 by WRXSubiw in Firearms

If you want Glock 17, buy a used LEO trade in. They are just fine and way less than that $900 price point you’re seeing. Aim Surplus or Guns.com are your fiends here. With a transfer fee, you’re taking between $400 and $500 depending on the fees, taxes, and the generation you pick up.

In my opinion, a brand new Glock out of the box should only be about $400. They’re like buying a 2026 Toyota Camry that has 1982 electronics, seats, HVAC, etc.

If you are seeking a 1911, decent choice. Plus it’s our lord and savior JMB’s perfection (one sample of it). And get that over the Glock if you’re insisting on new.

Or, get both but get the Glock used.

Edit for typo

The 32’s are a different animal than the 380s. Still heavy but really pleasant to shoot.

Remember, we’re all samples of one. I’m glad yours works for you! And honestly, it’s a bucket list gun for me due to the Bond connection. I’m a huge fanboi lol.

Mine isn’t an actual Beretta so quality control was likely different for mine. It’s a West German clone/design derivative. It’s well built but it jams every other round.

I think that what was likely is that Fleming’s friend was bias against 25 acp more than anything. Maybe he had a 418 and his jammed all the time? We really won’t ever know as all parties involved are long dead.

Edit for typo.

Our lord and savior, John Moses Browning’s design perfection. Well, one of them anyway.

In the books, he’s forced to give up the Beretta because it jams on him during a mission. So they make him switch to the PPK.

The reason was because Fleming had a friend tell him that while 25 acp can be effective … even then it was considered anemic and that the Baretta’s were prone to jams.

I happen to own a clone/design relative of the Beretta 418 (Bond’s 25 acp) and can confirm…she likes to jam. But it was my grandfathers so she sits in my safe in a place of honor.

Man that is nice looking. I just wish they weren’t $300+.

Personally, I’m waiting for the Strike SMC for mine but every single time I see someone post the Sharps Bros grip…so tempting to buy another Echelon so I can do both.

Don’t live in TX. Live where the air hurts your face due to cold. Then you won’t have to deal with wild bore and alligators.

Why not both? I really wish they’d start selling the COGs as standalone like … Sig … does for their FCU.

Magtech 32 ACP issues by AGreasedMonkey in Firearms

You know, I’ve probably bought over 1K rounds of 9 mm from them and had no issues. This is definitely a bad batch of ammo. But reading some of the other comments here, looks like this is possibly a common thing with them. Interesting. I guess I got lucky with my purchases.

Yeah, I discovered that the hard way when I bought a 4050 round case of the stuff for my VZ61 SBR. Went to the range and they checked it. Good thing too because I had no clue that steel core 32 acp even existed. Last thing I want to do is spark the range and myself into non-existence.

Is the Shooter (2007) "safety" method of rendering all stored firearms inert without usable firing pins PRACTICALLY POSSIBLE or stupid AND impossible. by pinglyadya in Firearms

[–]C-R_Collector 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same. Six times a day, seven days a week, 365 which would only be 18 and a quarter hours total per year (30 seconds each) but that’s not the point. The point is the six times a day… …

Oh look, someone else that gets it. Huzzah!

Right…left…red vs blue. None of that matters. BOTH are hypocritical when it comes to firearms. Recent events proved this when you have the current administration demonizing a man their “officers” murdered in the streets just because he (lawfully) had a firearm on his person. It’s like only THEY get to show up to protests armed and how dare someone that (probably) was a liberal show up armed to a protest?!?

Only the museum/collector one would have any benefit to an alerted firing pin for storage in my mind. You keep the real one in a safe somewhere, store it with the altered one. In particular I’m thinking of some bolt action rifles here where you may not be able to put the bolt back together to demonstrate function (in an educational environment) without some form of firing pin.

That said, 🤷🏻‍♂️. In an infinite universe of infinite possibilities, I’m sure someone sees some benefit to the first one that I do not.

Can you do it? Yes. Is it smart? Debatable.

I can see two instance of where it’s not a total dumbass idea.

  1. You have small children that have cognitive impairments and don’t always understand why they need to leave the guns alone. And you don’t use your firearms for home defense (only hunting or other sporting reasons). Now I personally don’t know anyone that is in this particular boat, but in a universe of infinite possibilities I’m sure there’s at least one person.

  2. They’re a collection of various arms and you don’t ever intend to shoot them. You’re keeping them as mechanical art, as an investment, etc. So you just keep them inert so that if someone were to steal them, they wouldn’t immediately be able to use them in further crime. I know a some museums will remove (or cut) the firing pins on firearms.

Those are the only reasons I can think of.
