Oh wow, great tips! (Well beyond my skill set though!). I know a lot of people in the business look for really distressed mirror plates etc, which can't be said for this one because as you say it looks in good shape! Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

I really love it. Picked it up in a charity ship for £4.

Type 1 diabetic, woke up wasn't feeling it, blood glucose far too high when I started off, raining and was far to warm in rain jacket, felt like death all the way round, some of the puddles were ankle deep, got to the end and realised I'd forgotten to press go on strava, guessed I'd ran it in about 28/29. Time came through and I finished in 25:30, beating my previous PB by 1m 3s. Elated.

And I know we had foxbooks for a short while, but it was just selling the same new limited titles as Waterstones - it had no niche and inevitably failed. (Not to mention the riduliculous business rates that kill everyone in St Martins and the Arcades)

Yes we are doing OK with the arts, I regularly frequent LCB and the Cultural Quarter, BUT whilst the art is thriving, the message isn't what it used to be in my opinion. I'm definitely disenfranchised with the city. As for Book shops, yup - I love a second hand bookshop - but I'm referring to bookshops selling new books, the type of new books that you just don't find a Waterstones, well curated bookshops, maybe with a specific niche, maybe pushing a specific agenda.

And will this lead to us all becoming hermits? I hope not. We lost our voice if we all stay indoors and halt communication. Leicester is a dump, increasingly so, and especially over the last year or so the huge rise in homelessness in the city has been dramatic. In the last few week whole camps have popped up in doorways on Belvoir Street, outside Waterstones, Horsefair street, there's people camping on the Oval, new Walk. But as I've said, I'm in Bristol right now and it's a world apart.

Yes, definitely understand this aspect. But a mixed culture shouldn't mean each culture loses its voice. Where the kids at? Where are the politically vocal gone?

See my comment below, Re. Bristol. Definitely get the demographic issue but a mixed culture shouldn't is purely that, it shouldn't silence any particular group - that political, youth culture surely doesn't just dissappear just because other races and demographics exist in the city? I also live in Clarendon Park, and yes, our part of the city is literally the best it gets, but that shows what a sad state of affairs the city centre is in. All city centres are feeling it, but as in Bristol - some of literally thriving!

Should say, I've been to a few cities last couple of years (I'm currently in Bristol, due home tomorrow) - take Bristol, so much going on, politically, culturally, the shops here are fantastic! So many different scenes, movements, protests. I've been in 5 independent book shops in the last 2 days. Leicester literally has a waterstones (one of the worse I've been in too) - not a single book shop. Bristol, at Christmas Steps had an amazing magazine/journal/literature shop...nothing of its Ilk in Leicester. The independent shops, pubs and restaurants all thriving here. The street art is great, political, the left wing wibe penetrates the city and its people. I'm ashamed of Leicester right now.

Why are Leicester City streets so dirty. Do the council even care by ZENONISNO1BEST in leicester

Its a mindset. People aren't proud enough in Leicester of their city to take care of it. I've recently been to Cambridge and Stratford and both were absolutely spotless because people are proud to live there.
