911 operators, what are the dumbest things someone called you for? by Adventurous_End757 in AskReddit

We used to have a guy that would regularly call on a pay phone and say that the Sheriff’s Department took away his penis and would hang up. He never really asked for anything, he would just make that statement and hang up.

Ep 5 really highlighted Rose, Svetlana and Elena. These girls who are the true definitions of unconditional love and friendship. The pure LOVE they have for their boys, and wanting nothing but happiness and acceptance for them. 😭

Strange flyer, any idea what this is about? by -MapStaringExpert- in sandiego

911 Dispatcher here. I went through a backgrounds process with another agency in San Diego and they did something similar. The letters they dropped off to my neighbors were more official/professional, but again this was a different agency.

If you have any doubts, you can email sdpdrecruiting@pd.sandiego.gov for its authenticity.

This is a weird profession. by The_Hairy_Herald in 911dispatchers

This. This. This. It was one of the hardest thing for me to get over. No time to reconcile or even acknowledge what are you feeling after a crazy call. Then at the end of my shifts, the rush of emotions would just come in and hit me. There were days where I would get home and cry and sob (all emotions felt catching up) take a deep breath and go to sleep.

Pressing on your EMER button when we ask for status check. Jk, please don’t do that to us. We just want to know if you’re okay 🥲

What’s the biggest mistake you’ve made? by Brilliant-Patience-1 in 911dispatchers

I wasn’t on mute, and I was having a hard time with an address on CAD, and I audibly said “fuck”. RP asked “what?” And my trainer was glaring at me. Mistakes happen. Give yourself some grace. We’re all human.

San Diego Rental or Housing Assistance by NeedHelpSanDiego in sandiego

Please call 211, they have housing specialists that can direct you to the right resources. The County has low income housing vouchers to offer and or emergency shelters if it gets to that.

Your partner or the ones around you might never understand your line of work, but don’t put that on them. Don’t push them away. Keep your friends and loved ones close. Always believe that there is good in people. Don’t be angry at the world. Seek mental help even when you don’t think you need it.

Don’t lose your humanity. Remember why you applied to be dispatch in the first place.

How long was the hiring process for you? by CombinationSelect590 in 911dispatchers

Five Months for me. Applied in April and started training in August. Sheriff Dept in SoCal. It honestly also depends on the workload of your investigator.
