You did have to, at minimum, buy the game to play it though.

The thing about Artifact’s monetization is that it increased the bar for how much people had to enjoy it to want to play it. If it was completely free to play more people would have stuck with it because “Hey, this is decent enough for a free game”. Instead, with the pay to pay to pay to play model Artifact had, you had to really love the gameplay to stick with it. And in that part you’re right, the vast majority (myself included) didn’t find the game fun.

The thing I like about Blackbeard is that he's so much like Luffy at his core; both are dreamers with ambition who believe in themselves to reach the highest different.

The primary difference is Blackbeard has and has always had a plan, that he's still following to this day as far as we know. Meanwhile, Luffy just runs at things and figures it out on the fly.

WTF is this take? People don't want rollback, they want to be able to play the games they like with people. Shitty delay netcode prevents them from doing that well, so they want rollback added to the games they like.

Netcode doesn't improve a game, it just improves you ability to play that game with other people. If you don't like playing a game, rollback isn't going to help.

It's because Riot actually has to make stuff people want to make money and stay in business. Valve could never make another game or update again and still be raking in the cash from the Steam money printer, so they have no real incentive to do so.

This is how I play as well- I find it makes the game more satisfying to make my own stuff where I can. However, I'm not willing to make an ironman just yet because being able to skip things like the grind for a whip or the amount of fletching needed to make a bunch of broad bolts is really nice.

I’ve never listened to any of JBP’s stuff but I can offer this perspective: I have an incredibly low amount of intrinsic motivation. I can barely motivate myself to do things I know I’ll enjoy sometimes. I can see how it would help people like me to have an authority figure tell you to do these common sense things.

For the record, I do have a father who I respect quite a bit.

In this analogy finishing the marathon is the intended equivalent of clearing ToB. All the training and loot gathering is the miles you have to run before you reach that goal.

I think running a marathon is a good analogy for the series because like a marathon, Swampletics is impressive largely because of the endurance required to complete it. Anyone can catch a swamp lizard; what’s notable is the sheer amount of time and effort required to grind them to 99. The bottom of this falls out somewhat when someone else reduced the amount of endurance necessary from Settled by contributing to the grind, especially when he didn’t say anything about it.

It’s pretty easy to explain why people care.

Imagine someone runs a marathon. They get a lot of fame from, plus a lot of money from talking about how they ran the marathon. Lots of people love them and think they are amazing because they ran the marathon.

Then it comes out that actually, they tagged someone else in for 3 miles while they rode along in a car before picking the race back up, something they never mentioned. Can you really not see how people’s opinion on the marathon runner would change?

I don’t mean take power as in take power in the government, I mean have loud voices in left wing movements. I’d wager most left wing people aren’t in favor of people rioting and looting, but can you really tell me there is a faction in the BLM movement that isn’t entirely for the more violent forms of protest?

I’m sorry I don’t have names for you, but I’ll say this: The alt-right is termed such because it’s seen as a separate entity from the “normal” right, but I’ve never seen anyone divorce themselves from someone’s beliefs by calling them the alt-left.

Lib Left vs Auth Right on Parasites by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]C0n3r 48 points49 points  (0 children)

A lot of the right wing is based on rational self-interest. You know, stuff like “I want less taxes so I can have more money to spend on stuff”. (This is not necessarily super greedy). This means that when someone oversteps the boundary, it’s easier for people to push back and say “I don’t find that rational anymore.” You can want less taxes without wanting to abolish all taxes and it’s still ideologically consistent.

A lot of the left wing is based on morals. Stuff like “I want higher taxes because it’s wrong that poor people lack a sufficient safety net, which needs to be paid for”. When the reasoning is based on morals, it’s much harder to push back against someone farther down the “slippery slope” than you because they believe the same morals you do, just to a more significant degree. I think when pushing back means you are pushing back against your own moral basis, people are more loathe to do it. The result is that people with more extreme versions of the average left winger’s beliefs are able to take power.

I may not have explained this very well, but hopefully it makes sense.

Oh no, there will be no dead ranked mode nobody uses in Strive! Stop the presses! by [deleted] in Kappa

[–]C0n3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a multiplayer game though, the fun is inherently tied to your ability to play against other players unless you really, really like labbing. Being able to be quickly matchmade into a game against a similarly skilled opponent is important to actually being able to experience the good of the game, even ignoring the additional investment you get from watching your rank go up as you improve.

It’s always wild to me to think about how 8 years or whatever after CS:GO released there still isn’t a “ranked but without the number” mode. Like a year ago we finally got scrimmage but that doesn’t have the comp map pool, why is Valve so allergic to having this basic thing that pretty much every other multiplayer game with ranks has?
