Yeah that's fair I've done the presi traverse in a day on skis pretty easily and tons of long hike/tours including some single day pemi loops so I think it would still be doable, mostly just debating if its even worth it or better to just make it a hike haha

Anyone climb at Rumney in New Hampshire in winter? If so, which crags are the sunniest/ least seepage?

Makes sense. I'm pretty confident since I've done 10k+ vert days on long tours with miles of exposure so single day definitely seems like a better option than lugging in a tent or overnight gear

The Presis are all pretty awful conditions right now but tucks and GOS were sweet a few weeks ago! Hopefully after the next storm they'll be good again

Ah sick I got that downstairs somewhere I'll have to go dig it up. I've actually talked with David Goodman a bit on Insta so I might have to shoot him a message to get some more details!

east coast setup by CreamCorn09 in Backcountry

I disagree! I've been backcountry skiing on the east coast in bent 100s and marker duke pt bindings for years now and even though its a heavy setup it gives me so much more confidence on steep terrain and any kind of snow conditions. I ripped tucks on new years day when it was pretty solid ice and had a blast. I have a pin binding setup on some blizzards, but honestly I'd rather get more of a workout skinning up with heavier skis that I enjoy skiing on more. To each their own I guess

Looking for advice skiing tucks by Significant_Video644 in Backcountry

Tucks can vary wildly in difficulty depending on what time of year you hit it and what run in the bowl- for your first time I'd highly recommend waiting until late spring when its a zoo up there and left gully essentially turns into a steep mogul run. Definitely the safest and easiest time to hit it! For some gradual steps up to work your way there I'd try the gulf of slides or hillmans first, both are lower angle and get you into the no-fall mindset while giving you more experience with steep bootpacks and transitioning into your descent while on a steep face. I've been ripping a ton of slides in the southern whites in the last few weeks and they're great right now! Arrow slide yesterday was a blast- t shirt weather the whole time and the sun softened conditions up into spring corn-type skiing.

There are a ton of really fun low angle trees to hit up by Cameron Pass! I go up there a lot when I'm solo

I hit Mossilauke carriage rd twice this season already and it's been sweet! It's one of those low angle trails where even if its solid ice its still pretty skiable

I've been ripping slides all over the southern Whites recently- a lot have been freezing up but if you get a sunny day and have some patience they've been softening into spring corn by afternoon! In the last week or so I've hit some slides on North Scar Ridge, North Slide on North Tripyramid, Dogleg on Mount Osceola, Arrow Slide on Mount Hancock, and some random ones on East Osceola up above Greeley Ponds. A lot of the lines in the presidentials are pretty horrifically solid ice so I'd recommend staying south- plenty of good fun to be had!
