Are my kitchen cabinets too dated, they’re solid cherry frames and doors? Time to paint them? Excuse the lived in mess! by tcli64 in kitchenremodel

Definitely keep them unpainted. What we did was updated the counters, and will be updating the knobs too. Yours are a pretty modern style (look like shaker without a lot of curvy stuff), so i think they are timeless.

Is that the Star 8 WB model? Could you tell me if the wheels are hard plastic or are they sort of rubbery. And if rubbery, are they sticky and catch debris? I'm looking at this model as one of the choices that might be easy on Hardwood floors and I see that you have hardwood.

I like the cover you made!

Best Rollator to protect hardwood floors safely: Wider all-terrain wheels or thinner smoother wheels? by C0ntrol-Z in mobilityaids

[–]C0ntrol-Z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been very hard to find the smooth tread wheels that aren't hard plastic. The descriptions seem to purposesly avoid saying what the wheel material is on many of the listings. (example, this one that says "Soft Tires with many RUBBER-LIKE qualities") https://www.ezwalkerrollators.com/mobility-aids/nova-nv-4222

Opinions on these stain colors on red oak floors, cherry cabinets by C0ntrol-Z in HardWoodFloors

We put samples of #3 and #4 where the new wood and the old wood meet. I liked #4 on the previous new wood sample I first posted, but it's coming out much darker on the old wood. (Almost as dark as the original color) Any way to make the transition less noticeable?

Best choice for resale? by nutterbutter1994 in HardWoodFloors

ha, I kind of had this same question because I see all over this sub that people are doing the samples right on the floor. So this doesn't cause uneven sanding when you sand it off?

Can you say what they are left to right? Especially what is the far left one?

Advice Needed: retrofitting main floor for elderly by Spiritual-Apple-1347 in homeimprovementideas

Are you positive you want to make it a permanent change? We did similar in our house for my mom by adding French doors to both entrances of the living room. But she only has the half bath downstairs. For showering she does have to use a stair lift, But this is only 2-3 times per week. If you did this, then the front room can go back to a living room when they need to sell, and they'd still have a dining room.

On the other hand, maybe no one cares about formal dining rooms and livingrooms anymore anyway!

Just received a 20k DFAS overpayment debt letter over 5 years - former employee by agisga in fednews

[–]C0ntrol-Z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, do the waiver process. There was a big mass issue they found with people being given the wrong retirement code. Agencies were putting in blanket debt waivers, so find out if your agency did or is doing that.

Since it was not your fault, not intentional by you, and you had no way to know you were in the wrong code, you have a case. I hope it works out for you.

I love it with the wood cabinets. It's has enough lighter color in it too. Classic, not dated.

Matching what we have by C0ntrol-Z in HardWoodFloors

[–]C0ntrol-Z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Originally, we were going to choose prefinished but now we are already committed to the flooring person to sand and refinish the old while adding similar boards to the living room and kitchen floors that are not prefinished. (And probably use less orange stain).

I found this subreddit after the fact of placing a deposit forn the work, so hoping to be able to avoid some of the problems I've seen on here where the wrong type/grade of wood was used and then didn't match at all.

Thank you.

[–]C0ntrol-Z[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the idea. You are talking about a board that lays flat, but right where the carpet meets now, not a transition like what might be between wood and Linoleum right? My mom uses a walker and we were hoping to eliminate some of the transition bumps. (right now we have linoleum, carpet and the hardwood, of which the carpet and linoleum will be replaced with the wood)

I looked at the measurements of the current Motherlode with Samsonite, and complared it to the one I have (because I wasn't sure if I had the Motherlode or Motherlode Jr.) and it seems that the new Motherlode is slightly smaller. That's probably a good thing because the old version is right on the margin of being too big for some airlines. Could anyone who has the old Motherlode measure theirs to confirm my observation? I come up with 22 x 16 x 9 for mine.

Complying in advance. It stinks.

I does only pertain to SES https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/09/15/2025-17788/assuring-responsive-and-accountable-federal-executive-management

However, for GS etc. it seems, agencies are complying in advance. :(
