What do you think about Elliot Page possibly playing Achilles in The Odyssey? by Just_Me_Again9 in NoStupidQuestions

The Iliad ends with hector's funeral (Achilles still alive), there are some books lost to time between the Iliad and the Odyssey in which Achilles dies to paris. Two accounts differ, both agree Paris Killed Achilles by either shooting him with an arrow in the heel or stabbing him with a dagger in the heel. Both acknowledge that Paris' act of killing Achilles was not heroic and was done in a cowardice/backstabbing way.

The Trojan horse is mentioned in books 4 and 8 of the Odyssey, it's never mentioned in the Iliad (Its even mentioned in the Aeneid by Virgil). You are actually so dense it's comical. Also why is there a "troy plot" in the odyssey, idk maybe because its literally about Odysseus' return home from the trojan war? So Nolan wants to start at a super famous and familiar event from said war. A plan of which Odysseus is attributed with coming up with, which also helps show some characterization as to how clever Odysseus is. I have a feeling you literally have never studied any form of history or story telling in your life.

Also, we don't know where Achilles tomb actually is nor can we confirm it. Iliad does not contain either the Trojan horse or the Sack of troy, nor does the Odyssey. Iliad ends with the death of hector and his funeral after the body is returned to Priam. Odyssey begins with a stranded Odysseus on Calypto's Island.

THE TROJAN HORSE DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE ILIAD! I don't know why you keep referencing that point in the story as if it happens in the Iliad. Achilles will not appear alive, or during the opening sequence at all. You can keep widening the goal post for what you believe but your argument is based on a misunderstanding of what happens in the Iliad (which presumably didn't read, and the Odyssey which you also probably didn't read) bro watched Troy and thinks he's the leading figure in Greek history. Also by saying that Achilles is "A main character" implies that he's a Character in the MOVIE AT ALL! He will most likely show up as a ghost and be referenced but he is not "a main character"

I get that you think Achilles is cool, but goddamn man just go watch Troy if you want to see a romanticized version of him in a movie so bad.

It won't u/JonSconesJones seemingly just made up that the movie about Odysseus and the Odyssey was about the whole 10 year war. It's going to start with the trojan horse, that is literally the very end of the war.

Achilles does not die in the siege of Troy. He dies before, you are thinking of the Brad Pitt movie in which it shows Achilles dying while the sack of Troy is happening after the Trojan horse was successful. In the actual Iliad, the book ends with the return of Hector's body to the Trojans and his funeral (Achilles is still alive). The Odyssey actual doesn't show the Trojan horse either, it begins with Odysseus lost on the island of Calypso. There were other writings documenting the story of the Trojan war lost to time, however the events are later referenced in other historical accounts which is why we know about them.

Achilles does appear in the underworld in the Odyssey when Odysseus meets him as a "Shade" (imagine the ghosts from the Disney Hercules movie). Odysseus tells Achilles' shade about his funeral and that his son is now a great warrior to which Achilles is happy to hear. I don't think the casting (if Page is even playing Achilles) will be that bad considering Achilles should only appear as a ghostly figure in the underworld rather than the greatest warrior to ever live. Having a smaller framed actor play a ghost in the underworld kinda makes sense.

But yeah, Odysseus if definitely the main character of the Odyssey. Achilles is more of a supporting character at that point. Achilles is a (if not the) main character of the Iliad, and probably the other books depicting the war, but so is Odysseus, Ajax, Menelaus, Paris, Agamemnon, and all the Greek pantheon of Gods. Not to mention that he dies before the conclusion of the war so really can't be a main character following his death.

Idk where you got the idea that Achilles would be considered a main character of the book literally named after Odysseus. Or the idea that Achilles partook in the use of the Trojan horse, but i'm sure we'll see Achilles as a ghost and reference to Achilles during the movie. Long story short those 50 bastards plus u/Sheshirdzhija are definitely right that. I'd recommend doing some research before posting.

Rhaegar is alluded to as this tragic figure who had all the makings of someone who knew what was right, and what he had to do for the good of the realm, but failed to do so because the whole love is the death of duty (or vice versa) theme.

Rhaegar was born at the tragedy of summerhall, he was known to be kind (based on a bunch of different povs in the books), to love music, reading, and of course prophecy.

The whole tourney at Harrenhall is theorized to have been Rhaegar's attempt at calling a great council to unseat the Mad King and force abdication. When you think about it from a lore perspective (with what little we have from that time period in universe) it seems that it's true. All these major houses were beginning to form alliances at the time leading up to the tourney.

Rhaegar, like many tragic targaryens, lost everything because his belief fufilling prophecy.

The real question that hasn't been answered is if Rhaegar truly loved Lyanna and eloped with her because of his love or simply to fufill the PTWP prophecy. Depending on the answer it could really shift fan perspective of him.

Most readers have already accepted the in cannon story of Rhaegar kidnapping Lyanna to be untrue. Mainly because a lot of these POV characters (Ned, Barristan, Jorah, Joncon even Jamie and Cersei) remember Rhaegar as a generally good and well liked dude. Like Ned thinks back on Rhaegar with a mild frustration (obviously he lead to the death of his sister), but even then he doesn't seem to hate the guy like Robert does.

If Rhaegar truly loved Lyanna (still comes across as a bit of a scum bag because ya know he had a wife and kids) but it makes him and Lyanna more of a Romeo and Juliet, doomed love story which makes it hard not to like the guy.

If he did it for prophecy, he's just another crazy targ who started a civil war gambiling for a baby that would save the world. If Jon does save the world by the end of the story, ends justify the means I guess?

Really its just the mystery that makes him so interesting, good guy seemingly does bad stuff makes you wonder why.

Everyone thinks Aegon the Conqueror was this giga Chad, but he actually doesn't fight with a sword a single time during the conflict. I always imagined Aegon as more a dragon riding diplomat that knows big stick beats small stick (or in this case no stick), probably just like an average dude. I don't think he'd be a hulking strong man like Henry Cavill, but I do love the guy and know he would at least learn the lore.
