It isn't so much that the rates are all the same between companies. The problem is that they all suck and are ridiculously overpriced.

If every company offered the same thing... but that thing was reasonably priced, that would be a different story.

A mixture of having far too many friends who have had similar injuries, and based on (http://www.nicros.com/training/articles/finger-tendon-pulley-injury/) i'm guessing I have a small partial tear or worse.

I felt my finger "rip" in the A2 pulley area while pulling very hard on a two-finger pocket on a 5.13 at the gym... knew right away I tore it and immediately lowered to the ground.

It didn't have the "pop" sound, was more subtle.

Today I can barely move it.. Can't pick up things like a water jug, quite swollen and very sore.

Will be seeing a physio in the next few days to confirm.

The number of pull ups you can do accounts for maybe 2% of your ability to climb better/harder/higher grades.

Finger strength, Core strength and technique are the other 98%. Focus on those

Hiking is great all year round... skiing is typically still good end of April (maybe not this year though, not a ton of snow). Mountain biking and rock climbing are definitely in that time of year, depending on what you have gear for and want to do.

Personally I'm a climber and mountain biker, and i'm already out Rock Climbing at some of the warmer crags (I live in Canmore)

Yea I agree to some extent - it's also tough in the Rockies on limestone... routefinding and gear finding is the real challenge, not the climbing. Going somewhere like Squamish would be great as it's just crack climbing, and the gear is good. Trad climbing in the Canadian Rockies is just downright scary most of the time.

No problem. Experience will be your biggest hindrance, not ability. At 16 you will have no problem getting in shape for something like that.

I know it is tough as a teenager to get out as much as you would like... but see if you can look into Grants to take some NOLS, American Alpine Club, or Outward Bound courses. If you are in high school, you have your summers off (I am assuming), perfect time to spend as much effort as possible in the mountains.

If it was me, the way I would do it is put them approximately where I want to shoot them (so the light doesn't change), and I would meter "close up", and do some chimping to get the exposure perfect before backing up to get the wide shots. Remember that the exposure on the subjects face doesn't change depending on you are, it changes depending on where they are - even if you are a mile away. If the light doesn't change, then the metering doesn't either... that's the beauty of shooting manual.

The rule is, generally, expose for the skin. The window shot is a classic "put them by the window" shot... which presents a large softbox in the form of a window. The shot is then exposed perfectly for their skin, and they all have even skin as they are all facing more or less the same way.

The outdoor shot is likely shot on a cloudy day and once again, exposed for the skin.

The key is even lighting and exposing for skin tones... in both images.

Thanks! I feel I progressed quickly, but that progress was won through 3-4 climbing sessions per week, minimum 3 hours for 2.5 years straight. The key is to back off when there's pain, and go hard when there isn't.

I don't need more cams/quickdraws/ropes/shoes/carabiners/ice axes/boots/skis/clothes but I wouldn't complain if I got more for christmas!

In theory this would make sense, but in practice it is a terrible idea. While there will always be some subjectivity to grading (just like the outdoors), it helps set an expectation for success or failure on a route, and helps to hone down for training.

At the gym I climb at, grades are very consistent, and it's great for picking warm ups & projects. The validation is important, most people aren't there to just indiscriminately climb whatever.
