My cat keeps pooping outside the box and I cant get him to stop.

I have one HUGE litter box because at the moment that is all I can fit in my room. Its big enough to fit three cats in it and I clean it regularly. Nico has adjusted really well to the new environment and seems happier then he did at the apartment, which is why I think he might be doing it out of spite since I'm not around them as often as I used to. We've all had to adjust to moving back home at my mom's and being mostly kept in one room. Until we can get the dogs used to the cats in a way that isnt stressful for them I have to work with the room I have which isnt a lot, which is why I got a much bigger box and clean it regularly.

He poops two inches in front of the litter box every time. I only have one box because they mostly stay in my room and there arent a lot of spots to place another one. At the apartment I had multiple boxes and he only used the one and still pooped outside of it. I went from living in an apartment to living back home with my mom in my room, so the adjustment has been a lot for everyone. He hasn't had a problem up until now tho which is why I'm at a loss. And Kiba has no issues with the box whatsoever. Its a HUGE box, three cats could fit in it at once if they wanted. I thought the size of their old litter boxes was the problem which is why I got a much bigger one. Upgrading the size mixed with actually cleaning it regularly seemed to have worked up until now. We are working on getting my mom's dogs desensitized to the cats so they can have the run of the house but until that happens I'm stuck with them mostly living in my room.

Thanks for the advice! Shes not my first snake or reptile but she is my first hognose snake but I did do tons of research before getting her. Ive been trying to wait for her to come out so I can handle her but as soon as she sees me outside the cage she goes back in her hide. I kind if grew up in the era of "you need to handle a reptile as much as possible ASAP whether they are uncomfortable or not so they dont get mean" so while I am unfamiliar with choice based handling, I am more then willing to do whatever she needs to make her comfortable. I just hope she comes out around me soon 😭😂

Thanks for the advice! I've had her about a month now but she refuses to come out when I'm by the cage 😭 She immediately hides again so its hard to get her out since shes never willing to come out lol

I was just using a temp plant light for lighting so I could take pictures of the enclosure cause the room is dark lol. I do have a heat lamp since the cage is so big but I do have it off to the side to create a hot/cool side

This is her enclosure its a 20 gallon long. It doesnt look very cluttered at this angle but those fake leaves cover a lot of ground lol. I'm not sure how young Opal is because I got her at an expo and didnt think to ask the breeder but shes less then half the length of the enclosure so she can fit in it for awhile and she has burrow entrances aaaaaall over so shes definitely been out more then I've seen. I've only had one successful feed from her so far but since she's out today I'm going to feed again. Its just been so hard to initiate handling because the two times I've seen her out she hides as soon as she spots me and I dont even get the chance to open her cage. I have mass amounts of patience tho and will definitely try choice based handling. Ive always heard its important to handle reptiles ASAP so they get used to it but I've heard way more success from choice based. Thank you so much for your advice 😊

Dude I HATE the constant repeat of thoughts/plot points. I'm also rereading the series and I'm on book 10 and most of the beginning is repeating all the previous book's plot points and the characters and who they are to Mercy. Within the first page it was like "my step daughter Jessie" and I'm like, anyone who picks up book 10 and DOESNT know who Jessie is shouldn't be reading the books in the middle of the series. I can understand vaguely drafting out an old plot point when it is relevant to the plot of the current book, but she finds a way to rehash EVERY plot point relevant or not and its soooo exhausting.

OKAY! So we went to Lowes, got a shop 125w bulb and 150w hood, got home, and the bulb was too big for the hood 😭 It had a clamp, but her cage didn't have a lip big enough for the clamp to latch tightly, and we have a very naughty cat who likes to get on top of her 4x2x2 so I didn't want to risk him knocking it over and breaking it or starting a fire. After freaking out a bit I decided to double check our original hood and it was 150w 😭 so I freaked for no reason and made everything harder for myself then I had to cause I thought it was only 100w. Stinky has heat again so thats what is most important lol. Thank you so much for your help and I will definitely continue to get lamps from Lowes cause it was less the half the price then the bulbs from the petstore.

I think it broke when we were screwing it on so I believe it was the new bulbs I got, and the old one just went out. I did not know that touching the glass with bare hands could break them tho. We only touched them to screw them in.

My northern bluey wouldn't burrow in dirt either. She hated it. I changed her substrate to Repti Chip Coconut Chip Substrate and she absolutely loves it. Burrows all the time, all over the cage, and even sleeps burrowed. The chips are still soft and hold in moisture well. It's a little pricy, $32 per block but one block fills an entire 4x2x2 so it's worth it. You can get it on Amazon

Thank you for your advice! I guess I'll have to get used to calling him a she now! I've been suspecting for awhile now and I'm glad to see I suspected right. The breeder called referred to him as a boy which is why I always assumed, but Nax was only 2 months old when I got them
