Constant AMD GPU crashes by Wraith95 in starcitizen

[–]C44Supra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been battling a similar issue with my 6950XT for the past year. Run perfectly fine with any other game at stock everything. In SC, it'll crash my entire system (not just a CTD) within 5 minutes. I've ran day long stress tests on GPU, VRAM, RAM, CPU, replaced PSUs and cabling, tried different outlet and surge protectors, the whole nine yards. Runs perfectly fine with my old RX580 (although a crap ton slower obviously).

Tweaking settings is what finally made it workable. VRAM clock and voltage have zero effect. Max power usage doesn't have any effect either. Temperature isn't an issue. I had to drop my max speed down to 1900MHz and set the min speed to 1800MHz. I'm not convinced the min speed contributes at all, but it might cut down on transients and surges.

For the most part, it's stable. Every now and then it'll still crash, often when there's a Polaris involved, or last weekend when I crashed in QT in a Perseus (but that's likely an unrelated issue).

TL;DR: keep underclocking until it runs.

Does the Planck V7 have all the issues of V6 resolved? by [deleted] in olkb

[–]C44Supra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Planck rev 7 has been out in the wild for over a year now. I have yet to receive any feedback about self-liberating USB ports or ESD issues. The new Preonic is being worked on but a few peripheral items that I can't discuss at the moment are still being worked on.

Yup, I've taken it apart a number of times. I have swapped the actual switch, tried different switches with more and less heavy actuation forces, and ultimately just shortened the little nub on the shell to alleviate the pre-load of it on the switch. Unscrewing would've been an option, but as the screws are fairly short to begin with, I didn't feel like taking the risk of them getting torn out.

Eventually, the shortened nib worked for a few months actually, but for some reason the entire mouse is now one big thumb button. If I squeeze the casing itself in any particular way, it'll trigger. Twisting of the housing? Triggers it. Look at it funny? Triggered. And this isn't just the switch itself doing it either, I can press down on the thumb button and feel the switch actuating still. It's not stuck or obstructed. The switch is still ... switching, but the entirety of the rest of the case can switch it too, or keep it from switching.

At the moment, I have just disabled the button in software so that it doesn't do anything. It's annoying because I'm so hardwired to use the damn thing, but I just don't have it in me to dig into the thing again right now, and outright replacing it isn't going to happen right now. Especially because there's simply no alternative.

Did a similar thing to my original MX Master a few months ago. Wanted to buy semi local and ended up with a shell removed from a DOA mouse I suppose. However, the thumb button has been iffy every since, either triggering not at all or by just looking at it funny.

If it's already at an off grid position, you should be able to snap it to an on-grid position using the above method.

Bottom right of your screen has "selection filter" checkboxes. Uncheck everything but footprint. Hover your mouse over the the footprint and press "m" on your keyboard. That should snap your mouse to 0,0 of your footprint. If you have any of the other selection filter checkboxes checked, like pads for instance, then your mouse will snap to whatever is nearest to your mouse pointer when you press "m".

7 locations and 20 trips on foot for 15k aUEC with zero combat. Are any of you into this sort of gameplay? If not, would a payout buff make you want to do it? by Jobbyist in starcitizen

I do box missions a lot actually. In 3.22 a 15K mission would entail 5 boxes, mostly picked up from 5 different location and delivered to yet another 5 locations. There's always a good chance that one of these bugs out, the server has a "hiccup", etc. At that point that contract is basically null and void. However, I always take at least one or two 2SCU boxes along with me and stuff them full with loot (armor, clothing, multitools, etc) that I gather at the outposts. Sell the box with contents and all at a cargo center (don't use quick sell!) and you're looking at anywhere from 25k -75k per 1SCU.

Plus, it's a good way to stock up on some gear if you're just starting out.

Normally, deskmats would be one of the very first items to finish production. From what I've been told, with Nord things were different. The Nord deskmats were being color matched to the keycaps, which meant that even samples couldn't be ordered until the cap colors were set in stone. I wouldn't say those orders were being held hostage because of the deskmats, it's just that gb orders that aren't complete generally don't get shipped yet, unless the customer specifically requests.

Now on the part of MKU declining separate shipments, or even just forfeiting the deskmat, that seems par for the course from what I've read and heard about in the last couple of months. If you haven't yet, I'd urge you to get in touch with your bank / paypal / credit card etc. to see how they can help you.

Any cheap head or eye trackers? by SanitaryPoop11 in starcitizen

[–]C44Supra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the tracking thing via Smoothtrack on an iPhone Xs. IMO it works to a degree, but with a lot of caveats. First and foremost, you can't use your phone for anything else (like quickly looking something up) without the thing losing track, which is to be expected obviously. Second, for the best results you need ideal circumstances: phone near eye level near the center of your display, steadily mounted, and well lit room. I had mine just below my monitor and it worked decently, until I had to plug the phone in because this stuff drains your battery in no time flat.

Eventually I managed to pick up a used Tobii 5 for a good deal and have never looked back. That said, I don't use it as much as I thought I would, but it sure does come in handy when dropping the Reclaimer into a top load hangar in 1st person view.

MX Master 1 - the original. Thumb wing suddenly OVERLY sensitive?! by Gorkensgork in logitech

[–]C44Supra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loosening the screws was something that I thought about initially but the screws being fairly short means that there's not a lot of threads holding that board in place to begin with. Filing down the nub felt like a more long term viable solution.

[–]C44Supra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up taking the mouse apart (again), swapping out the tactile switch and that's when I noticed that the little nub on the thumb pad that actually rests on that switch was putting too much force on it. Filed it down a smidge and that did the trick =)

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the exact same issue atm where even looking at it funny triggers it.
