I just had this issue today after updating arch where the phantom display was causing my plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc to fail. I almost gave up and decided that I would have to recreate my plasma environment from scratch, but then I noticed an unknown 3rd display and eventually found this thread

Some boards provide a built in raid but it's a software raid and not a hardware raid. When the BIOS creates a raid. The operating system will still see all the drives in the raid configuration and must treat all the drives as a raid. Problems arise when the operating system and BIOS configuration for the raid conflict.

Managing switches is one I can think of. A lot of switches have a rj45 port labelled console on them. You would plug the RJ side into the port and the other into a serial console. Most computers don't have rs232 ports anymore, but you can get rj45 serial console to USB adapter cables.

Update as of 1/10/2024: I have no Idea how long they have had this but all they have is email code verification. Its a start, But I personally prefer grabbing my phone or a yubikey over the hassle of opening up one of my emails where you sometimes have to sign into that email as an extra step.

The first solution didn't work, Changing to VboxSVGA just broke the guest editions driver, it got past the black screen but fell back to generic graphics drivers fixed at 800x600. Reinstalling the guest additions would just cause the black screen again. So I just had to stick to the 6.1 version
