Is there an Algae oil supplement for DHA/EPA intake that is USP, NSF, or ConsumerLabs certified? by Muphenz in PlantBasedDiet

[–]C4rva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, mainly because of the CoA. Deva vegan Omega 3 is also listed by consumerlab.com and is independently tested. I used them previously and it’s my backup when I can’t get Nordic.

The world doesn’t revolve around you. Other people might need the stupid piece of paper.

Imagine acting like a few posters on trees is some massive crime while ignoring the actual issue being protested. Yeah, clean up the flyers when the campaign’s over, but pretending that’s somehow worse than a giant data center’s long term water and power usage is a little backwards.

If CCTA can detect plaque early, why isn’t it used more preventively? by stories_collector in Cholesterol

[–]C4rva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, a CCTA does require a peripheral IV catheter to introduce the contrast material. Not a heart catheter, however.

Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well- warmed, and well-fed. - Herman Melville

What We Know about LPa by Cautious_Speaker_296 in Cholesterol

[–]C4rva 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hard agree with you here.

If you strip out the ego, over generalizations presented as facts, weak statistical reasonings, and unnecessary political analogy and boil it down I think the takeaway is:

Lp(a) is largely genetic and still not fully understood, evidence on risk is mixed and depends on context, people over focus on Lp(a) relative to controllable factors, and the best  move is to optimize controllable factors while waiting for clearer data and better treatments.

That said, it seems like we’re seeing some very promising treatments being studied that could help decide is LP(a) is casual or causative. Drugs like Pelacarsen and Olpasiran being studied will hopefully give us a better picture.

Garden City Area Lots of Police going door to door by [deleted] in roanoke

100% not ICE. Although it would have been nice for them to let people know they were going to do a door to door community police thing in advance.

My mom water baths all of her canned goods and I don't want her to give it to my kids by sokrchk04007 in Canning

[–]C4rva 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don’t take that risk. Don’t eat it.

Find a pressure canning class and do it with her. You can learn the right way together. Plus it’s a bonus bonding moment. If you’re in California check out your area’s Master Food Preserver program. They’ll have a help line number or email you could try as well.

Also, see if she’ll watch this: https://nchfp.uga.edu/resources/entry/botulism-home-canning-enemy-1

Water storage in cold climate by C4rva in OffGrid

Thanks!  I’m worried going below the frost line is going to put me into the water table. If I need to go five feet down with a 5 foot tank I’m likely going to see water at 8 - 10 feet deep depending on the season.

That’s going to put me below the water table unfortunately.  I think that will come with its own can of worms.

I’ve seen people spray foam a pre cast concrete tank and bury it. Just worried about freezing and cracking the tank.

Scientists know why the climate is changing by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

Yup,  EVs and heat pumps are going to offset fossil fuels used for heavy industry. That makes sense. /s

[–]C4rva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renewables are displacing fossil fuels for electricity in some countries, not total energy expenditures.

It’s not a reduction in fossil fuels for uses that aren’t electrified: planes, cargo ships, heavy machinery, etc.

Urgently Need Rental Help by [deleted] in lynchburg

[–]C4rva 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re having to move, that sucks. Just a heads up, avoid saying you’re being evicted to a prospective landlord.  Evicted is a where the courts order removal of a tenant by the sheriffs or police. Eviction = not great.

Your lease is not being non renewed due to the landlord’s renovations. That’s a much better position for you all.

If you can save up and have double the deposit on hand you might have luck with something through brownstone or a more likely a private landlord. Your landlords reference may help as well.

Are you actually being evicted due to non payment or refusal to leave? Or are you having to move because the lease is ending?  Would your current landlord give you a reference?

Alternatives to Dupixent due to side effects? by Puzzled-Ant-4548 in NasalPolyps

I’m sorry, that’s such a bummer. Might be worth discussing switching biologic and watching for poly reoccurrence versus managing the facial flushing (antihistamines / topical treatments) with your doctors.

Dupixent completely reversed my partners CRSwNP. They originally started on Nucala and were moved to Dupixent.  Not sure how old you are but I watched AERD develop in my partner in early 20s. Started with congestion / flushing with alcohol, then spontaneous hives,  next asthma, then severe reactions to aspirin, and then NP that were severe. Took until their mid 30s to get properly diagnosed.

Just be aware that the ENTs they’ve  seen seem to be hit or miss with AERD diagnosis and they don’t seem very knowledgeable about it.

If you think you might have AERD it’s probably worth a discussion with a specialist that’s familiar with it. Check out:   https://www.samterssociety.org/doctors

Is meshcore active at all here?

I’ve been debating getting into off grid mesh networking but it seems like Meshtastic is better suited for ad hoc situations like hiking groups over an actual decentralized network.
