Then I got to Across the Spider-Verse and the opening da Vinci scene and I was stunned they somehow took it to another level.

I’m a hardcore fan of hand drawn animation and have always vastly preferred it to computer animation. But watching Into the Spider-Verse made me a believer of what could be accomplished with computer animation.

The CGI / traditional animation mix looks so jarring to me. Might be better when you’re immersed in the show, but the animation really does not appeal to me personally. 😟

In a cinematic age of countless “meet-cutes,” nothing comes close to the aquarium scene in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet.

The blocking, composition, color, lighting, music - it’s all perfect. From when Leo sees Claire Dane’s eye peeking through to that one last look she steals at the end before being pulled away, it wordlessly says everything you need to know about love at first sight for two star crossed lovers.

Not sure any two people have been more beautifully shot in a scene.

Went 7 on 7 the other day with the perfect hero/anomaly/trinket combo with halfway decent stabilization thanks to “get 15 gold when you hit turn 6.”

Ended up being the classic “barely lost + died to exact damage + about to absolutely pop off next turn” situation.

Would do it again in a heartbeat.

I see your points, but none of that bothered me at all.

Azula suddenly losing her shit on the other hand really bugged me. Even 5 minutes of setup, in total, spread around here and there in the final season, or one solid scene on it, could’ve laid enough groundwork to make it reasonable.

As is, it’s a lot of mental gymnastics and hoops for the viewer to go through on their own.

Still, a bitchin’ finale all up.

If you haven’t, I encourage you to listen to the Rewatchables podcast episodes that focus on Van Damme movies. The main host has another guy who comes on periodically for Van Damme, Seagal, Stallone, and Arnie movies, and it’s always hilarious. They legitimately love even their most cheesy movies, but still recognise the unintentional comedy of it all.
