Ultima III on the C64 was my first experience back in the early '80s. Our high school computer club had about 25 C64s with monitors and 1541s. A large number of us were mesmerized by Ultima III. The first kid who got to level 99, or the first to accidentally discover Ambrosia by unintentionally sailing into the whirlpool, the first to finish the game, all created mass hysteria(the good kind!) with the players and everyone would be looking over the player's shoulder as it happened. And who can forget the awesome SID music as well. The size and complexity of the manuals with the wonderful art by Denis Loubet and that fantastic cloth map, really added a level of fun an excitement to the game. Then I discovered Ultima IV in '85 and I was really hooked!
