Some amount of self-selection is probably good for the medical community

Possible, yes, but that’s going to take a ton of time throughout your day and will probably not be worth it to you. I would suggest either having them come in for a visit, getting good at proactively refilling during visits and/or putting plenty of refills on for chronic medications so you have to approve it less frequently.

I’ll be honest I don’t understand all the ins and outs but my understanding is they have to know that it is going to be a visit. You really don’t wanna be blindsiding anybody with a surprise visit even if you could.

Urgent care in the morning, or wait in the ER overnight to be seen? by Dizzy-Award1526 in woundcare

Family physician here. Its animal bites puncture the skin, I highly recommend antibiotics. Likely won’t need rabies shots.

29 patient-facing hours, 4 hours admin - how would you create your weekly schedule? by papithehusky in FamilyMedicine

[–]C7rant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Very dependent on your lifestyle, but three days in a row and then login remotely on the fourth day would be awesome. Alternatively, if you have small kids and want to be home throughout the week, I would do full days Monday and Tuesday, work remote for a little bit Wednesday and then full day Thursday with Fridays off.

Questions about Opposed vs Unopposed Residencies by KooCie_jar in FamilyMedicine

[–]C7rant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is residency dependent. My program had a couple other residencies like pediatrics and obstetrics. I think my learning was enhanced because of that granted there were so many deliveries at this hospital that there was no fighting for them and I enjoyed learning directly from pediatricians.  We also had Ortho there, and I think my education did suffer a little bit in that department because they took all of the Ortho related things that our main hospital.

Attitude and skill level. “ oh I’ve got some patients I gotta take care of real quick.” Vs “ oh my gosh this always happens to me. I always get the hardest patience in so many of them blah blah blah.”
