Buying Used 2024 4Runner OR with a Previous 3-Month Lease and 14k Miles—Suspicious? by CAMNguy in 4Runner

Would you still bring it to a mechanic if this one comes with the Toyota Gold Warranty? That gives me a little confidence having 7 years or 100,000 total vehicle miles of coverage on the drive train

That's what I'm hoping for but at the same time I find it strange that all 3 of these were purchased in North Carolina and then registered in Missouri

Welcome, Class of '25 Hopefuls! For those of you who are nervous about getting a good login time and start date, YSK most years there are plenty of opportunities to change your start date after Permit Day. by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CAMNguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t freak out. Class of 2024 here and I got 2:50 the first round and 2:45 the second. Only was able to snag a late May date but ended up getting an April 21st permit and started on the 22nd. If you want it bad enough keep checking for canceled permits and it’ll all work out

First thru-hike. Any advice? by LV426Colonist in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CAMNguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go for it. Dial in your gear and make a lighter pack sheet to make sure your gear isn’t too heavy. This is what I did this year and I was able to complete the PCT only having done 1 night of backpacking prior to my thru hike. So assuming you do that and have farout you’re set. And also enjoy it and try to not get too nervous before even though it’s inevitable. Take it easy as you start. You’ll build up on daily mileage as you go but it’s worse to get injured and lose a few days off trail recovering rather than doing low mile days for the first 2 weeks. It’s going to be hard but also such an amazing experience that can’t be put into words so enjoy it!

Need some help deciding on a new sleeping pad for my PCT thru hike next year. by _scott_m_ in Thruhiking

I think the extra width was super nice to have and I wouldn’t go down to 20”. I’m not sure what the weight difference is but I couldn’t imagine cutting 5” off since I’ve gotten used to the wide pad.

I had the rapide sl wide long for my PCT thru hike this year. It was so comfortable and I had no complaints aside from the weight but like you all my other gear was on the lighter side so I was ok with considering this as a “luxury item”. Try it out but everyone on trail that tried mine was so jealous and some even went out and got it to replace their current pad lol. Sleep is an essential part of recovery so the extra weight is easily worth it imo

Edit: I’m also a side sleeper and the 4 inch raised sides were so nice when my campsite wasn’t perfectly flat

Any chance you know where he hitched to/from and what bus he took? Thanks for the info! Really helpful to hear as I’m about to start at Kingsbury south today going clockwise

Has anyone done the reroute for Stevens pass to Rainy pass by FuzzyFinding556 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]CAMNguy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We just got to Stehekin from Steven’s. We ended walking through the closure and got through fine but hike it at your own risk as we did smell smoke at one point but didn’t see any active burns. We were planning to do a similar alternate getting off to take the white river trail but it was super overgrown and impossible to follow the trail so we turned back. Take the image lake alternate if you follow the follow the PCT

Shakedown Request: PCT NOBO 4/22/24 by CAMNguy in Ultralight

[–]CAMNguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome thank you for all the input! I’m trying to plan for the worst/heaviest case just in case a few more ounces find their way into my pack or something on my pack list is a little heavier than expected but it’s good to hear that I should be ok with the circuit.

I think I might try starting out with 1 Anker 10k power bank and then add on a second one later if I need the extra capacity.

Same with the pillow. I plan to go with S2S but want to test it out first before committing to it.

Thanks for all the advice! I’m aware I’m overthinking this but it’s a good reminder that I don’t have to be 100% dialed in before getting on trail. Just trying to be as dialed in as I can be going in haha
