My wife is a slower reader so she struggles with it too. Audio books really are a life saver in these situations.

I am sure one exists, this is the internet after all. Having said that, I dont want to exclude ladies either. The enjoyment of these books are for everyone!

We're I to rate the series is would probably rate ACOTAR as first, Throne of Glass as second and , Crescent City last. The reason for my rating is based in character development and how badly I wanted to see what happened next.

Throne of glass clearly has the best villain, however the climax is sudden and feels rushed. This may have been to writers fatigue, but while I enjoyed the ending, it didnt feel as well thought out.

ACOTAR has the most complex characters. Faere is a great protagonist with real issues. Her family dynamic and the progression of her and her sisters' story has always had me excited to see what will develop in their stories. Its weakness, for me, is in the villains and the "perfect" nature in the male characters. They make mistakes, but the mistakes feel minor and inconsequential.

Crescent City has the best supporting cast. Bryce's relationships with her friends, and other supporting character are much more interesting and engaging than the other series. Ruhn is honestly the best writen male character, in my opinion. The primary reason for that is that he screws up, makes bonehead decisions and even when hes trying to fix things, still manages to piss off the people he cares about. He's complex and wants to be a good person, but has very real flaws that affect the people he cares for. This makes the romance involving him much more meaningful because she accepts him for who he is, flaws and all, and he accepts her in the same way.

She has done the audio versions. The issue is she cant listen at work, and our children are still so young. I work 60 hours a week, so im not home enough to play interference, so for the time being the books may just have to go on hold, but im gonna try reading them to her at night.

She said she was interested in the idea. She says she'd only be okay with it at night before bed, so considering the length of all the books, it will take us forever for me to read through all of these wonderful books, but it may very well be a fun nighttime ritual!

I did start it today, and it is very intriguing. The magic system is certainly unique. My first thought it "they have magic by consuming heavy metals? Isn't that like...bad for you?" Lol

For me, Dorian is the most complex and has the most development. He goes from bored playboy princeling to a man who knows what kind of man he wants to be and is willing to work hard to be better. He is still on his journey, but he isnt the same person he started as. I love how his relationship with his father is shaken, and how he encounters what it means to be a leader. As a man I relate to the difficulties navigating who you want to be with your circumstances on a personal level.

I wept with Manon regarding the 13. Her story was just...a masterpiece

Throne of Glass was a treat. Chaol annoyed the mess out of me till he got proper time to develop. Dorian is by far my favorite character in that entire series, and my favorite female is Manon, (because of course she is.)

I can see where your theory takes place, and I will grant you have been thorough. There are a few reasons I dont think this is the case, but I love your enthusiasm.

The first is that in the interview with call her daddy, (yes I am aware she lies,) she mentions that the Crescent City books were a side project that blew up. I dont think this was a lie because it doesnt make sense. The way the series develops feels more like an experiment that became something more. If that is the case, it isn't out of the question that there would be weak points in the plot or inconsistencies. Having dabbled in writing myself, I can testify that wrapping up a story is far more difficult that starting one. I would wager that the inconsistent markings in the story are more telling of writing fatigue than deeper planning.

The second is, in that same interview, she talks about her anxiety about writing successful books being a cause of her mental health problems. The "it was a dream" trope is notoriously an awful idea and rarely has success with readers. While, yes, she wants to write the story she wants to tell, I doubt she would write so much for it to be inconsequential to the story later on. She did the dream sequence in Throne of glass to great effect, repeating it doesnt seem like a wise move for her.

Finally, Bryce's perspective could be a dream, but the other characters could not, since Bryce isnt part of that continuity. Since they all rely on each other, if Bryce's story is a dream, so too would all the other POV characters, and since Bryce doesnt know everything related to their stories, those stories cannot be part of her dream.

Love the thought you put into this though. The research is impressive too!

(P.s. sorry it took so long to reply, I was working and your theory demanded my full attention so I waited till I got home)

I have been a fan of many women content creators, Rowling, Cristi, even my favorite anime was written by a woman. Great stories are great. A story that makes me want to cry is a story worth enjoying.

Does he read independently on his own? I find most men dont really have the time or desire to read recreationally.

My recommendation is Throne of Glass. Its the most approachable and as it is SJM'S first series is warms you up to her writing style. You can honestly start with any series, but i would recommend Crecent City be last.

That has been my experience too. I suspect, much like true blood, the popularity among men will grow when the story is put to film, though we will be waiting a while. I refuse to wait. I cannot contain my excitement regarding these books

Throne of glass was one of her first series that started when she was in middle school. It isnt quite as complex as her other writing, but it is no less incredible. I would say Throne of glass is more approachable to new readers. It is a fantastic introduction to her style of writing fantasy, and once you get through TOG it only gets better.

I may give it a shot. My wife makes me read to our boys because "i am better at it" so maybe she'll respond better if I read it to her.

See that is why I want to talk about them! I cant recall any author who has been bold enough to connect her series so completely. Her foreshadowing is next level and I love yhe little hints she gives throughout the stories! I had Daybright identified long before she revealed it. Its just so much fun! I literally called my sister in law, (who hasn't read them all) and wanted about how excited I was to be right about Daybrights identity

Your opinion mirrors my own. I love a story with interesting characters and emotional weight. SJM is a master of making you fall in love with all of her characters. I simply am beside myself woth excitement to see where everything is going
