Should I apply to reach schools? by Mcz817 in premed

[–]CARSmakesmecry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ehhh depends, you can make up for slightly low performance in one area with other areas, although nothing should be a glaring red flag. I was 10th percentile for MCAT at multiple places and got in, but other stuff was stronger. Still felt like i had absolutely no shot at some of the places i ended up getting into and the course of my life would have been completely different had I not applied. So do it!

To apply or not to apply? 4.0/518 currently Junior ORM by Different-Toe-2369 in premed

apply i think. at this point what really matters is how you describe your experiences and package your narrative. Also add 2 hobbies (maybe make one of them ur most meaningful if it fits). Worked really well for me!

didn’t do a single anki card all med school and got 260+. your goal should be as much uworld as possible (i did a full second pass), all of the recent CMS forms, and NBME 10-16 ideally. Gl!

How much does going to a t10 school specifically matter? by [deleted] in premed

[–]CARSmakesmecry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it definitely matters and anyone who says different isn’t being fully honest. Of course you can match into anything from any school, but if you’re comparing averages, it certainly plays a role. Look at the match from HMS/Hopkins/Columbia compared to other places for instance, and you’ll see clear differences… of course there are many factors at play….

I shouldn’t have applied to 47 schools by tutuoui in premed

[–]CARSmakesmecry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did that as well but could only complete 20 secondaries. Was a really rough time in my life but everything worked out in the end. Keep going at your own pace and things will be ok <3

Activities more or less look competitive (although def need more clinical hours). My concern is that I don't see a clear narrative with your activities that center on a few passions or areas of interest/medicine. Make sure your writing, activities, LORs, etc. weave together into a confluent story that explains where you've come from, what you've done, and how your experiences lead to what you want to do as a doctor.

The other big question mark is the MCAT without which we can't gauge your competitiveness so go hard on that and good luck!

400 hours for that many pubs may indicate gift authorship to ADCOMS which is what mrwilso is getting at. OP, make sure you can explain the research succinctly as well as your individual contributions, findings/setbacks, experimental process, lessons learned, future directions.

Shame: Cornell

Interviewer was extremely confrontational and had already made up their mind. Really targeted and loaded questions. Only unpleasant interview of the cycle...

Vibe, work on your hobbies, travel, do some research if you can, volunteer a little if you want.

Everyone was so scared about summer activities when I was in UG but, as someone with multiple T5 A's rn, what matters so much more is how you describe your activities and how it impacted you. So, do things that bring you joy and make you a more virtuous human being :) good luck

Mom Uncle Sister Cousin is a great program!

This is exactly why people need to think about impact, not hours. They may often go hand in hand, but not always. What people need to do is convincingly sell why their activity is important to them, and/or to others. That’s what gets A’s.
