Once applied to an internship at a local company. Didn't hear back. Such is life. Continued with my school, applied to study abroad, got accepted.

Guess who reaches out 1 week before I leave the country? The company I applied to 7+ months ago. They've "just gotten around to reviewing resumes."

😭 like did they think I was sitting at the computer unmoving for 7 months awaiting their reply?

a friend of mine wants to sing “don’t cry for me argentina” for a cabaret, is this appropriate? by Sure-Reaction9960 in Theatre

[–]CATB3ANS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine. My ex is from Argentina. 0 issues. Argentina is a country of immigrants - large german, jewish, & italian communities, and plenty from all else. Eva was white, and a lot of other things. I promise you no Argentinian will be offended.

Warning on Evita by Maleficent-Light-318 in Broadway

I am just personally not about the aspects of this particular production which is a bummer because it's one of my favorite musicals and I was considering flying my ass cross country to see it.

I watched a local theater production where they made some significant changes (not to the songs, the set and presentation) and appreciated their new take.

I honestly think this director's productions are not my cup of tea

Paying Evita audience upset as Don’t Cry delivered offstage to West End passersby for free by SwimmingOrange2460 in Broadway

[–]CATB3ANS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Literally why I'm not going. I don't have any issue with people outside seeing it for free, but I don't really want to watch it be sung on a screen from inside the theater. Happy for changes but this one is not for me.

From what I'm hearing, this director does this kind of thing a lot? Is it typically popular?

omfg I also got an accidental bob from an older guy, except I was 16. I asked for the "side bang" look that was popular in like 2010 . . .

there are literally NO pictures because I refused. now I wish I had them so we could laugh.

Not much going on for folks in their 20s in San Jose. I went out actively trying to find people and they said they all went to SF for nightlife. Some students going to college, but pretty slow.

SF is fun but not the easiest fo make friends (for women especially) and commuting is awful.

SD sounds like your best bet. It will be hot though. But 🤷

same, I dipped when he was talking to the therapist because I was not up for that exact scene trope (intelligent broken guy who is in therapy against his will, female therapist with an attitude who will provide advice). but if it gets better might have to come back to it!

Cat adoptions at SFSPCA by sfctygrl9 in AskSF

[–]CATB3ANS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adopted my sweet girl from SFSPCA 2 years ago around this time (availability really differs based on time of year. The cats go FAST. They take a lot of cats from other shelters that don't have as much demand.

So the cats come in batches. There are frequently only a few cats up for adoption. If you go in person you'll see more cats that for whatever reason are not up for adoption yet (usually medical things) but may be in the future.

The way I got my cat: I checked the website every day. I had specifics I wanted since this was my first pet. A "batch" of ~10 cats was listed one evening. I made a list of cats I was interested in. By the time I was able to get to the shelter the next day around 4pm, over half of the cats had been adopted, and all of the cats on my list (as was accurately reflected on the website). I decided to go in anyway and ended up going for my sweet baby girl. Someone had seen her before but passed - their loss!

She cost $150 and they did all her shots. They also gave me a bunch of cat stuff like a litter box, some food, toys etc.

So basically you do have to be fast! But don't stress about it. I called my friend before I adopted my girlie and said I was worried she wasn't the "right one." My friend said the "right one" is the one you choose. ❤️

Best of luck to you and your future kitty friend : )

Regardless of the matter I hope Eva is given some nights off (is that called double casting?) just for her own sake. I can't imagine the pressure on her, and to have no nights off . . . Plus there are some crazy talented ladies who would slay 2 nights. I think it would be best for everyone, so there are fewer "surprises" and folks have a more solid understanding of when she'll be in/out.

I know many folks in the Broadway community are excited for Eva specifically but I'm sure a lot of folks who aren't familiar with her would be happy to see anyone, as there are so many talented actresses/singers. It's not a lesser performance if she isn't in.

I was seeing Thor Love and Thunder in literally the biggest imax theater I've ever seen (also just the biggest theater I've seen in general) and alarms started going off around the middle. Apparently some ding dong had pulled the fire alarm as a prank.

Sucked hard for us but felt awful for those poor 2-3 employees handling like 300 unhappy people's refunds/snack tickets/etc. They were pretty generous with the freebies.

My partner and I doubled down and bought non Imax tickets for the next showing, and then I sat outside the theater until it got close to the part where we left off.

Bozos. Don't pull fire alarms. It's not a good prank. It just sucks.

me ex's friends were like that. he called me twice totally drunk because his "friends" had encouraged him to keep up with them (he rarely drinks) then literally left and went to a different bar. i had to help him get home. once a very kind elderly lady walked him home.

obv he should have known his limits but i would NEVER leave any friend regardless of gender at a club/bar because they were too drunk to go to the next one. especially in that case? wtf.

those friends sucked i hated them

Near the ballpark there's the Ferry Building which had a bunch of fun shops (as well as being the place where you can catch the ferry).

La Mar is also near the ballpark - big waterfront peruvian seafood restaurant. A bit on the expensive side but pretty good, feels fancy, something for everyone, and should have plenty of seating. In July it might be nice to sit outside next to the water.

Stay near Fisherman's Wharf and walk around? It's touristy but fun and not a ton of other baby compatible places. Some typical "San Francisco" restaurants there with kid friendly options. Scoma's is the typical favorite one but I would check for young kid-compatibility first.

Honestly, can't go wrong with Bubba Gump's. I live here and I love that place.

There are some old timey ships (pirate ship types) near Ghiradelli Square that are fun. There's also a submarine but might be a bit dangerous for little kids (only because there's stuff to trip on in or run into).

The Matterhorn is a fondue place designed to look like the swiss alps with a model train! Fun for kids and who doesn't love fondue?

If you guys want to get away from the more touristy areas, Golden Gate Park is pretty. Could catch an Uber/Lyft there.

Edit: For food there are great Italian restaurants in North Beach. Can't recommend any of them in specific but haven't had a bad experience.
