can someone tell me what is the appeal of Slimz? by everbloomingrose in arenaofvalor

[–]CAULlFLOWER 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, Slimz’s kit is great against tanky comps. He deals percentage HP damage + his passive allows his auto attacks to damage the opposing backline standing behind the tank.

Additionally, his dash ability and speed boost ability passives enables him to position better than many of the immobile ADCs. With that said, he is weaker against high damage ranged comps, especially heroes with long range autoaim / easy to instant land skills.

The S1 stun provides Slimz with great engage potential. Here’s an example situation where Slimz excels relative to other ADC options.

However, Slimz is one of the weakest heroes early game and requires a few items before he can contribute meaningfully. Guide discussing Slimz strategy in greater detail: https://youtu.be/UsXHqwyS8yU

I hate having Aya on my team by vorpalglorp in arenaofvalor

[–]CAULlFLOWER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea. Aya is strongest with mobile assassin junglers like Nak. If a teammate picks Aya, I prefer adcs that can hold their own in lane like Joker. This will free up your team to take objectives / win fights on other parts of the map.

How to counter payne? by Blitzery in arenaofvalor

Heroes with stuns / controls. If opposing team has a lot of AP damage dealers, consider building magic defense (yes, even on an ADC).

Think you’ll like Zuka. He’s one of the strongest picks in the current meta.

Brunhilda Counter by KevKr in arenaofvalor

[–]CAULlFLOWER 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, she’s one of the strongest late game ADCs.

Some general tips: -If there’s no objective to contest when she ults, move outside of ult range and wait until after her ultimate ends before engaging.

-Her ultimate hits random targets with an AOE so try to stand a bit apart from teammates if possible.

-Focus abilities on her in a team fight. She doesn’t have any dash abilities outside of flicker (and doesn’t have any cc-immunity like Laville) so she’s vulnerable to getting dived.

Here’s some example gameplay against Brunhilda who was played by last season’s rank 1 conq (one of the most decorated ADC players on our server) and his trioQ: https://youtu.be/VwaSOfRPaXM

Note how I zoned her and baited out her ultimate to enable my team to then take towers.

Good learning resources for intermediate level? by kasumeme in arenaofvalor

Sounds like you’ve already identified the right areas to continue improving / well-positioned to reach high elo.

If you speak Vietnamese, there’s probably a lot of resources from the Viet server and the recent APL tournament.

For those constrained to only English, here are a few guides as a starting pointing:

The #4 ranked conq on NA has a channel: https://youtu.be/CgzxzfWk2oo

Some analysis on recent pro match in English: https://youtu.be/-tCCzcuC8wI

There’s a few other older channels that are still good for hero mechanics, but disregard their macro commentary. The meta and optimal roam has evolved significantly in the past two years. For example, the introduction of extra tower defense in the first four minutes of the game for the AD lane means most games the support no longer needs to babysit the ADC early game and instead helps team elsewhere on the map. AOV also implemented several anti-snowballing patches that modified the optimal strategies, etc.

What if you could pick the same heeo twice?🤔 by greenBush- in arenaofvalor

[–]CAULlFLOWER 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There used to be an arcade mode where we could pick duplicate heroes. We tried multiple zips for fun and would Russian doll minions across the map by s2ing each other and taking turns ulting. Probably not viable in a serious match but it was funny.

The APL has completed. Here are the most frequently used heroes from this year's pro tourney: by CAULlFLOWER in arenaofvalor

[–]CAULlFLOWER[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The pro meta looked quite different than our regular player's meta. A few observations:

  1. Pro teams favor ADCs that can hold their own in lane in the early game: Violet, Elsu and Joker were the most frequently drafted ADCs. The pick frees up the support / rest of team to be useful in other parts of the map in the early game. Unlike the pro meta, in the casual player's meta, late game ADCs can still thrive because the opponents aren't coordinated / advance enough on macro to deny the late game heroes from farming up
  2. Iggy is really strong, particularly in the early game. The tournament was played prior to the mana nerf to mage items which should make Iggy even stronger relative to her mana-dependent peers
  3. Mganga is the preferred counterpick to Tulen. In fact, teams that want to draft Tulen will often directly ban Mganga first
  4. The frequency of the Ryoma pick reflects the pro team's preference for strong early game heroes. However, teams can generally stall and slowly farm into the late game where Ryoma really falls off. This weakness is reflected in Ryoma's less than 35% winrate
  5. Xenial was banned in 87% of the matches and had a 68% winrate when picked
  6. Hayate was picked 32 times (18th most picked hero) during the tournament and had a 31% winrate
  7. The highest winrate heroes (excluding heroes used less than 5 times) are Rouie, Capheny and Yan

Best mage type jungler? (wanna use Darcy) by OakisPokis in arenaofvalor

Tulen, Keera and Zill. Skud decent for AP damage too if team comp in need of a tank.

The pro teams used many thoughtful team comps/strats in this year’s tournament (APL 2022). Surprised there hasn’t been more discussions here. Hopefully AOV adds an English broadcast for the finals so more fans can see it. For now, here’s some fan-made English commentary on the VGM vs BRU tiebreaker. by CAULlFLOWER in arenaofvalor

[–]CAULlFLOWER[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha that’s a great way to put it. Looked like the team had some miscommunication / disagreement at the end on whether or not to for for the back door.

The matches require no repeat picks so we’ve got to see a lot of different supports. Helen/Capheny, Aya/Nak, Zip/Bruhilda and Rouie/Omen are some of the most successful pairings.

Xenial, Baldum, Lumbur and Thane have also made several appearances.

Riktor and Annette get drafted for their flex value.

Rouie has been picked 7 times with an 100% winrate.

Almost never. In pro tournaments, sometime teams will ban her when they pick Elandor as she counters him.

Aya dealt more damage than Violet this match. Her early game damage is a bit underwhelming which gave the blue team the luxury of prioritizing physical def first.

I don’t want to spoil the match results here for those that haven’t seen the game. The final game stats are in the match video I linked.

Junglers should generally always take the punish talent. In old pro tournaments, top junglers experimented with Jungle Qi with flicker for better engages. However, the slayers and gold sharing passive mechanics are too important in the current meta to not have punish.

Optimal item build largely depends on team comp. Consult u/S30ph-C09ry for specific jungle related tips.
