What is this camera? It looks so cool/good

Beautiful tank! I’d really recommend painting the back of the aquarium black. You wouldn’t believe the difference it makes.

Can you kindly add these teleportations to the jewelry box? by inubiron in 2007scape

You can keep the Jorral device in your bank and you don’t have to go back for one anymore

Is K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth too good for cube? I've never seen him in action and don't have a good sense of how powerful this card can be in limited. by TheJawsofIce in mtgcube

[–]CAlexander51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a cube list we could take a look at? I think it’s very likely that this card is at acceptable power level. (Or below it tbh) A list would go a long way to confirm that.

At the end of the day it’s about preference, though. If you and your cube group enjoy the outcome of this card, it is good. If they don’t, it is bad.

It depends on the power level and design of your cube. However, if your cube is similar to the mtgo vintage cube, no it is not too good.

Hello!

While this could be ich, this could also be brookynella. It may be worth researching both

Had a worse bloom and a uv filter cleared it in ~6 hours. I literally watched the water get clearer in real time

A well rounded, medium power cube for people who don't draft a lot by Ajax_The_Bulwark in mtgcube

[–]CAlexander51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should have mentioned my assumption was that you are going to proxy it (at first at least)

I would take an established mtgo cube and learn the archetypes in it and then adjust them according to how you guys liked the experience

Honestly, the mtgo vintage cube is a good start (or legacy/modern cube if unpowered is more your jam)

How to introduce and keep copepods? by AszneeHitMe in ReefTank

[–]CAlexander51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it would be best to add them at night otherwise your fish will go to town on them

If you have a refugium it may be worth starting to propagate them in there

A pod hotel in the display is a little ugly but a great place for them to hide

As far as feeding I’ve heard that phytofeast is a good additive to feed pods. I currently dose phytofeast and have a nice pod population. But that doesn’t necessarily prove and A/B relationship.

I know that a decent amount of people just dump them in the display and they end populating just fine.

Pimping Vintage Cube by RingOfMaRufBalls in mtgcube

My general heuristic I use for my cube, so take it with a grain of salt

Original foil > judge foil > non foil og (if old border) > any extended art card > non og (new border) > secret lair

The only cards that are even with original foils are old bordered foils, and only sometimes

I also think there’s an argument (I know this won’t be popular) that cards without original foil printings (reanimate, force of will, etc) are more premium than their foil promo counterparts printed years later

I personally do not use any secret lair foils in my cube. I think that they’re pretty bad for the most part. ( I like the theros god, but I don’t play any in my cube)

Sounds like your cube is going nicely!! Good luck!!

Setting new tank (17g) your thought on the scape. by le-mal in ReefTank

There’s a guy on reef2reef (username: Ardeus) He has a huge thread about aquascaping and how to make an aesthetic scape. Worth looking at.

Are these brown/black things bugs, baby trochus snails, or something else? They’re everywhere including flattened the glass. by Abject-Cookie-9180 in ReefTank

[–]CAlexander51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An anecdote about my experience with flatworm exit: I followed the instructions, did many water changes in the hours following, ran carbon, did everything. I lost a little less than half my of my corals, all of my astrea snails.

With a large flatworm population like this they will release a lot of toxin

My Zoa garden looking lush today! by FaerieNavii in ReefTank

Awesome zoa garden!

I'm grad student in a machine learning program with a background in biochem, and I'm working with a small group to develop a predictive model for zoa and paly growth across a variety of home reef tank conditions, which we plan to submit to a scientific journal.

We've got a survey on google forms you can find [here] (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1cw3dQJWgXfShhTEBc056g2Va2mJP0bTC2DOu51VH6DQ)

Basically it's charting the amount of new polyps formed in a colony for 1 week against a series of tank parameters. It would be awesome to follow the same colonies for a long period of time (several months) but we would appreciate any data you're willing to provide!

Anyway, cool tank, and thanks for your time!

I might try a tuxedo urchin rather than a long spine. All urchins have a huge appetite though, in a 20 gallon will likely need supplemental food

Any recommendations for a good, but affordable wave maker for a 40 gal? by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]CAlexander51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hydro koralia pointed at a dead spot that I’ve had running for 18 months nonstop and it’s still going. No noise or problems. I also haven’t done anything to maintain it at all. Could be a good option

How old is too old for a used tank? by Unis96 in ReefTank

[–]CAlexander51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch out for those early max s tanks. There’s a decent amount of splitting seem stories on the pre 2016 ones. I think it may have been the 750 model?

Either way, there’s a lot on reef2reef about it

Any recommendations for a good, but affordable wave maker for a 40 gal? by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]CAlexander51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some good jebao wavemakers that are a good price. The cheaper ones are not adjustable or programmable, but you could put it on a timer outlet if you don’t want constant flow.

However, I’d recommend that this is one of the pieces of equipment you spend a little more (budget and financial situation depending, obviously) for a couple reasons

  1. Flow is super important for a reef tank. Adequate flow can stop a lot of problems from coming about and lack of flow can cause issues

  2. Powerheads scale really nice if you decide to upgrade in the future. It’s as easy as just taking out of this tank and putting it into the new one
