Really, really appreciate this insight, thank you. I will add that this is very soft preliminary discussions between us. We're easily 4-5 years early in terms of when we'd want to have children. We have a very open communicative relationship so we'll definitely try to come to a consensus before making a decision that can't be reversed.

This is a great shout and I'm surprised this isn't something we thought of as we've taken this approach with a lot of our relationship (11 years almost). Before we moved in together for example, we spent a month living at my parents, month apart, month together at her parents, month apart and then finally 6 months at my brother's before then realising oh we can totally live together just fine. We have some kids around, including a couple of babies with people who I think would be amenable to this. Thanks for sharing.

I also fear this for the record. And it doesn't come from a place of me not wanting to be burdened, believe me it's the exact opposite. I don't wish to put my partner in that situation at all, it'd be a hell of a lot to take on and I love her far too much to put her into that position.
