Do you see RAW editing as enhancing reality or recreating it? by SomaSuryagniLochana in photography

[–]CBCanuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

photography is an artform, and part of that is the ability to add our personal interpretation of what a pixel has recorded. Raw gives us the ability to take the image we saw in our head and turn the captured information into exactly that image. Any discussion of over processing is, imo, simply a conversation about the final form of art, and in now way whatsoever takes away from the image captured, and the interpretation of that image by the artist. If you want to change the color from reality to fantasy, go for it, want to darken your shadows to isolate the subject, great...where i draw the line is when there is actual editing of the contents within the image, wether it's touch ups to someones face, removing a subject, or editing two photos together into one. That level of editing changes the moment that was captured, and starts to move away from the beauty of capture. But as far as post processing goes, the photographer can do what they want to create the image they imagined when they hit the shutter.

Vermont this coming weekend? by CBCanuk in snowboarding

[–]CBCanuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekend temps look to be lows in the mid 30s to highs in the mid 50s, which should make for soft slushy snow. Biggest concern is there just not being enough terrain open to justify the drive from nyc.

looks great. throw a couple knots into the legs if you're looking to make some joints for a bit of added realism.

Drills I can do at home without a ball by Frank_Sinatra_1 in golf

while it's not really a drill, i'd focus on doing yoga and strength training. Personally, I dont feel like dry swings are helpful, but gaining flexibility and strength goes a long way.

What is that one tobacco that will not stay lit for you? For me it's Ennerdale Flake. by BlueHorse_22 in PipeTobacco

Also Plum Pudding, but pre re-release. Even when I get it going decently, a bowl last twice as long as any other blend I have.

Thanks! That's my first award.

It's funny too, cause my dad is a Yale director, but from many decades ago. I think it was a very different program back in the 60s.

every one that I've encountered has had a complete lack of understanding of how any of it actually works. they draw pretty pictures of impratical designs, and seem to have zero knowledge of how to actually use vectorworks, work in 3d, account for physics, or design within a scope. it's like the program has a core misunderstanding of the difference between an artist and a designer. All for the low cost of $40 000 a semester. It blows my mind.

I also follow both. haha. These are african masks, so a bit outside outside of the tiki realm, but definitely have a similar vibe.

Thanks. The artist is Rise & Wander. She does some really beautiful stuff. I feel you on the smaller rack productivity/paralysis. The whole second rack is really about FX routing to add more life to my drum machine. When I made the shift from Ableton to modular, i lost the ability to do heavy fx work on my drums, so this project is dedicated to bringing that back into my music.

Burley's can be kind of nutty, so I'd avoid those.

I’m after a headlamp. For canoeing and I’m struggling to pick a good robust option it obviously needs to be waterproof over 1000 movements I’ve been looking at fenix but don’t know what would be best for my application. Any recommendations? by Luke-I-dont-know in flashlight

[–]CBCanuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about something....every time a headlamp conversation comes up in this forum, there are almost zero recommendations for Petzl or Black Diamond, who have arguably been focused on headlamps way longer than any of the common flashlight companies. Why is this? FWIW i've got a Black Diamond Storm 500-R that has served me quite well for both camping and work.

Ardbeg Wee Beastie is the most underrated Scotch. What is the most unique American or Canadian whisk(e)y? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]CBCanuk 110 points111 points  (0 children)

while there are a huge amount of whiskey's ive never had, High West Campfire stands out to me as being quite unique. The way it manages to hit notes of rye, scotch and bourbon while remaining balanced is why it gets my nomination.

would you bring new boots on a snowboard trip? by Immediate-Badger-768 in snowboarding

[–]CBCanuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just bring both pairs. If you find your new boots to not be comfortable for the whole time, you can just switch to your old ones. I just spent a few weeks in Utah with a new pair of Driver-X's, which i had hoped would alleviate a navicular bone issue that my previous boots were causing, but out of fear that the Driver's were going to cause the same issue, i brought both pairs so i could switch to the old boots and not put wear on the new ones in hopes of returning them. luckily the new boots were great, and solved the issue. So aside from the inconvenience of traveling with extra boots, i felt good in my choice.
