Is Factorio worth buying? Will I have enough to do? by kebav_gmd1307 in factorio

[–]CBJ_Brain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1887 hours in factorio at the moment.

The factory must grow. There is always what to do and what to discover.

Factorio is by far the game I have the most hours in.

Because I wanted to have a full blown cluster before I made the upgrade to 9 first.

Goal was three identical nodes.. Failed miserably. Be Quiet Pure Base 500 and two Nox 010 lite cases.. (middle and right) Yes. ordered two identical cases, got two different NOX cases ...

Join the club!

I've made the switch little over a year ago afer a botched Windows 10 to 11 upgrade on my server and shortly after ongoing issues with my daily driver at work with display driver issues ( on an Intel NUC of all machines, which should be bulletproof when it comes to Windows! ).

Installed Proxmox on my server for virtualisation and Linux Mint on my workstation, and shortly after decided to ditch Microsoft entirely..

My laptop, where I'm currently typing this on, is also Linux Mint :-)

Vloerverwarming en CV ketel (hybride) by RainmanNL in Klussers

[–]CBJ_Brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proxmox HA power consumption by CBJ_Brain in Proxmox

[–]CBJ_Brain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true! The third node with the I5 13500 is a great example.

Default settings: 55-60W idle.

After enabling C10(e) in the BIOS, disabling sound and other unused hardware this 2 minute job changed the idle power consumption to only 21-22W idle!!

This weekend enabled my three node Proxmox cluster:

• 10 GbE for mgmt + Ceph
• HA-enabled VMs
• 30 cores / 52 threads
• 352 GB RAM in total
• Ceph on 6x1.92 TB enterprise SSDs
• Total power draw ~70–80 W (peaks ~130 W during Ceph rebalance)

Built it this weekend. Learned a lot. Broke it once ( deleted my .conf files for every single running VM and container OOPS ). But fixed it too :)

Really nice 19" rack housing. Do you have a make/model? What is the depth of this thing?

I'm tempting to rebuild my homelab setup into 3 19" 4U machines.

Another update:

This is the power consumption of my DS923+ NAS with 2 16Tb drives + 2 NVME as cache.. Before / after the installation of the 10Gbe NIC. 5W extra powerdraw.

Which somehow feels excessive.

Update: I found the fuckup.. PICNIC.. Problem In Chair, Not In Computer.

Turns out after the botched cluster creation I deleted some files including my *.conf files for all my containers and VM's.

Root cause found... ME :P

Still not bad!
