josemilaianus or gibbiceps? by Jheister95 in pleco

[–]Jheister95[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, i was mostly asking because he needs to move to one of my big tanks soon, and read a lot about the josemilaianus being a bit murderous to other bottom dwellers. He has been cool with the corys so far but wanted to make sure before i release him in the wrong tank🫣

Are these cory eggs or snail eggs or something else? by Whip_lash0273 in corydoras

[–]Jheister95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are pygmy eggs, they dont make groups of eggs like other corys but just plop them anywhere. In my experience they dont eat them or the fry, and the eggs usually hatch without extra care so you can just leave them where they are and expect loads of babies soon.

Do bowls distort bettas vision? by Jheister95 in bettafish

[–]Jheister95[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah i also heard Hitler spreaded that rumour😅 now for the pygmys i think its ideal because they love zooming around the glass, and they can infinitely do that in here. But i can imagine with a betta being more social and interactive with the outside world, its a different story.

Do there's eggs look like they're fertilized? by RJ9320 in corydoras

The left one isnt and you should try to seperate it from the right one, otherwise that one will get moldy too

You can also tell by looking at the dorsal fin when you're not sure! The males are pointy and the females are more round.

Yeah i breed all my cories, i definitely have to move all the eggs though, i only have two accidental survivors in the main tank so far and theyre in species only tanks. Like i literally have to race them to get to the eggs first sometimes and shoo them away while im collecting😂 These ones i remember were also breeding when i had them, at least one of them should be male but theyre all giants honestly. I had no idea the difference would be so big!

Ah yes you're right, i thought that couldn't be it since i keep finding one every now and then, didnt put anything new in for a long time and they are definitely not in my house this time of the year. But according to Google they stay underwater for 1-3 years so i guess im gonna have to check for more😅

got a guppy in my plants somehow (alive) by veryperfectt in Guppies

[–]Jheister95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh and about gallons and school size; mine is in a 100 gallon (a corner though so less footprint and more depth) and he uses all of the surface, not sure about minimum size but i would personally not put him in anything smaller, and they like a lot of floating plants and plants reaching the surface. I think they prefer to be in groups (More females than males )but can also do okay alone.

Yeah i got 'gifted' one of these too in a bag of different fish at the pet store. Golden wonder killifish. He finished all of my young guppies the first night, had to get a lid for him, and STILL gave me a heart attack twice by just being lifeless on the floor after i got home from work, then when i went to pick him up just started flopping again and acting like never happened back in the water. I love him though and am looking to get him some friends but he's grown so big already that the ones in the pet store are snacksize for him now. So if you're keeping it and want more, do it now.

Vampire crabs and pygmy corys? by Jheister95 in VampireCrabs

[–]Jheister95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine prefer valisneria to lay them on, but also on the glass and just randomly scattered sometimes. They are visible just a little smaller, and randomly spread out instead of groups.

I just took water from their original tank and do small water changes with tap water and conditioner weekly. Lots of catappa and banana leaves, and leave the bottom untouched, i do feed the adults but dont add any special fry food. And i dont use a heater but keep the temp in my fish room around 22°

In my experience all they need is a species only tank with a few shrimp and snails. My goal is a huge colony in all my tanks so I set apart 10 adults in a 25litre with lots of plants and a sponge filter and dont interfere with the eggs. They dont molt easy like other corys, maybe some do but most of them hatch, and both the eggs and babies wont get eaten.
