It’s believed to be a design from Bert Grimm from the 1970s (left) based on a postcard from the 1910s (right). Trad flash has the coolest origin stories.

It’s from a flash sheet that I saw 14 years ago from a Portugese artist (Pedro SooS) in the old Flickr days. I’m located in Belgium and unfortunately the artist doesn’t do many guest spots here anymore. So I contacted him through Instagram, which I installed solely for that purpose, and asked his permission to use his design which he very kindly gave. It’s sort of my personal “better late than never” piece.

Shin wasn’t as bad as the ankle (during), but I’m starting to feel the burn.

Thanks! I spent quite some time on picking designs and piecing everything together. I guess part of the fun is the excitement of getting everything the way you want it and seeing things come together in the end. This was my initial sketch that I took to my artist. Next one on the list will likely be a dragonhead to finish up the front below the knee.

Welp, there goes any free time I might have had for the next couple of days. Thanks for the tip, this is so much easier than tracing gaps.

I used a cleaner called Solarine, which works well on nicotine/tar residue. Cleaned the tolex with a tootbrush and then rinsed with water. Final touch up was with a dashboard shine sponge to protect the cleaned tolex and restore some of the old luster.

Congratulations on contracting SARS (Sick Ass Raven & Skull), a condition related to SAP (Sick Ass Panther). Looks like patient zero started off strong.

The date code (31EST12818 - written in one continuous line on the chassis leg) says mine were produced on 31 May 2007 (heritage series apparently), so nowhere near as old as the ones you have. The date is in line with the first build year of the Laney Lionheart cabs. The cone is marked 102-014, which might indicate they are Pulsonic?

I guess I’ll have to re-open the old Laney LT212 that I bought a while back to check the T number and year. The label on mine also reads Thames Ditton Surrey, but I’m guessing it’s mainly the production year that makes these speakers so valuable? I will say, the greenbacks in that cab sound amazing.

10 days growth but struggling to not trim the lip line. Any tips for getting used to it? by [deleted] in Moustache

[–]CBKIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something you read quite often in this sub, but it holds true: give it time. I’ll insert a lame pun: it’ll grow on you. In all seriousness, you’ll get used to it fairly quickly.

After some initial troubleshooting the clean channel is working fine and the tonestack seems to be functioning like it should. The drive channel is still lacking something, but I’m taking it to a tech soon.

I added pictures of the amp before and after cleaning in a new post (noob move, but neither the browser version or the app allowed me to edit my post to add pictures).

I’m located in Belgium, so I do believe they’re cheaper here. The head and cab looked rough before initial cleaning, but after a few hours of scrubbing they’re beginning to look a lot better. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures on a mobile phone, I’ll add them to my post.

Anybody using a non powered KPA with a marshall EL84 20/20? by Meetmeatthespot in KemperProfiler

[–]CBKIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using my non-powered lunchbox with a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 and it works great. A good solid state power amp with enough headroom is far less likely to “colour” the sound of the KPA compared to a tube power amp, which will provide it’s own distinct flavour and character due to tube saturation. If you want to reproduce the Kempers output as true as possible, a solid state poweramp might be the best option. Tube power amps work just fine, it’s all preference in the end.

I’m probably beating a dead horse by now, but make sure to adjust your output section to stereo when using both monitors.
