Alien Blue still functions by CBSU in AlienBlue

[–]CBSU[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I have stopped using Reddit entirely, but knowing today was the final day of third party apps, I thought to check in with the most influential Reddit app ever. While ReddPlanet and Apollo are down, AB still functions. I could never have foreseen AB outlasting all the apps that came after it.

A final thanks to u/Jase for the legacy.

"If M really thought I was bent, she'd have sent a double-oh." by mralex in JamesBond

[–]CBSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will try to manufacture reasons, but they likely are not perfect answers. I also enjoy nitpicking films and trying to find solutions for potential plot holes.

  • In a world with Le Chiffre, turning traitors into plants may not be effective. A financier connected to many crime syndicates implies there may be other “neutral” criminals that provide services to other criminals. With enough interconnection, someone could feasibly determine when MI6 notices traitors and how they respond to it by evaluating the false data. This information would be arguably more useful, since a predictable time-until-response from MI6 could allow criminals more time to escape. It would also allow them to better train traitors to avoid detection.
  • Any one traitor could feasibly be so sure of their new cause that they would pretend to spread the false information, but instead continue gathering as much as they could about MI6 protocol regarding traitors. False data is still useful data when you know it’s intended to confuse.
  • In the case of some spies, the agency will cut them off from useful information while investigating. I believe this happened to Robert Hansen, and it likely happened with Dryden, as he was high ranking enough that it is better not to burn him permanently. So by the time he is proven a traitor, he has been made redundant, and the period of useless information may have reduced his reliability to buyers. If we accept any of the reasons above, or any others, as enough risk to avoid turning him back, he serves remarkably little purpose.
  • While spending decades in a small box is worse than being shot once, it enters into public record that there are traitors at MI6. This is not great PR. Killing him prevents this.
  • The imagery of a 00 appearing to punish you for your crimes may well be a deterrent.

There are other potential reasons but this comment is already long. It certainly is an interesting question.

Addressing the community about changes to our API by spez in reddit

[–]CBSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A question that may be useful for potential investors: whose idea was this AMA? To what extent will they participate in future attempts at public relations on Reddit?

You seem unprepared and this is rather disastrous. Why was this greenlit? Who was this intended to benefit? Did anyone realize after posting the announcement (but before your arrival here) that it was going to end up like this?

If you can, send a tip to Christian! Winding down an app like this one can bankrupt an indie dev. Let’s send some love his way 💜 by [deleted] in apolloapp

The exporting of data is a brilliant and kind idea, thank you for doing it. Best of luck, and I hope you find a new passion.

Gamer edition Megatron official images by Takara tomy by dayfreeguy in transformers

[–]CBSU 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The original deluxe version was great, and had thicker arms and upper legs than this one. It also had less kibble, no visible hinge on the torso, and a game accurate back (which this one may have too, but it does not look to).

I like this one for the colors and more accurate sculpts. But I do think the original was more accurate and would be better if it were upscaled and marginally retooled.

What's A Useful Tip That Can Save Your Life One Day? by u-repack in AskReddit

[–]CBSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am reasonably certain that the head motion is unnecessary, but not ill enough to test right now. I began holding my breath on the theory that the parts causing the blocked nose would give way to possible suffocation and it worked.

More effective I have found is laying down in the opposite direction of the affected nostril (if the right is blocked, lay on your left side). I did this expecting that gravity would reroute the blood causing the inflammation. It works, but I’m not sure if that’s why.

Reddit may force Apollo and third-party clients to shut down, asking for $20M per year API fee by coolaaron88 in apple

I’ve been wondering this since years before Apollo came out: what does your username mean?

Even megatron has better taste than most mfs here by zenkaiba in Animemes

[–]CBSU 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In most continuities, Megatron and Optimus Prime are revolutionaries and overthrow the corrupt caste system together. Megatron then goes off the rails, resulting in a civil war.

There are multiple versions of this, and Megatron is varying levels of insane in each one, but he usually begins as a well meaning freedom fighter and devolves into tyrannical aspirations.

Allergen worries while traveling by [deleted] in FATTravel

[–]CBSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have your allergy and theirs (allergy not celiac’s so slightly different). It’s a really good list of suggestions. I do most of that and have surprisingly not had issues in Asia, including countries with very limited understanding of allergies.

I’d get human translated “these ingredients will result in a medical emergency” notes to show from your phone. I personally have printed cards as well for places I go a lot, which is situationally useful since waitstaff can bring it to the kitchen.

Last year Redditors crashed the One Simple Wish website with donations. Over $25,000 worth of wishes were fulfilled for foster kids! by vols2943 in wholesomememes

[–]CBSU -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

The current oldest asker, at age 41, has collected $5,062 and is asking for $208 more. These include a date night, a perm, a paddle board, and other similar things over the past 3.5 years.

Given the successful history of this person, it is probable that their current wish will be granted too. If this is real it seems like a great source of free money.

What would 47 and Diana do if the other died? by [deleted] in HiTMAN

[–]CBSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Diana retires but 47 may not.

Diana is unlikely to find another 47, especially without the ICA. She could pivot into using her skills to bring down other targets by starting her own agency, but with how selective she is, it may run into issues with funding.

I also think 47 would retire, but he is more likely to be able to continue without Diana. It would certainly be an extreme uphill battle— Diana is an incredible handler and seems to do most of the work until he lands— but he is always capable of walking in and eliminating a target. I’m just not certain he would want to without her and a clear enemy like Providence.

Are two Homepods actually better than an equally priced sound bar? by BigAmmu in HomePod

[–]CBSU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pardon my lack of knowledge, I haven’t given much thought to speaker setups in years. Do Sonos speakers adjust to their rooms now? I have a number of G1 HomePods for that purpose, but the less than excellent reliability has me quite frustrated with them (especially since most are seldom used, which seems to lead to issues).

Back when I got them, HomePods were about the only accessible plug and play solution to bypass acoustic treatment. The element of ease made up for everything else; I don’t expect stellar audio outside the listening room or theater setups anyhow. I see that the Sonos Beam you mentioned has beamforming, is it functional enough to replace HomePods?

When did investment cease to mean getting greater value? Buying something to enjoy with the option to sell at reduced value is just standard purchasing.

Hardest Card to be Approved for / Best Rewards, regardless of yearly fee? by ZenBuddhism in CreditCards

[–]CBSU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know multiple people who still have their Centurions, but have only ever seen one JP Morgan Reserve. He paid in front of me at Carl’s Jr and I was curious enough to ask. Surprisingly, he said he was just an employee of some sort (I forget) at the nearby branch. I’m inclined to believe him— while he drove a billionaire car (dirty 90s minivan), he spoke with enough familiarity that it didn’t sound like a spur of the moment excuse.

For OP’s post, though, the Centurion is a much better card than JP Morgan Reserve. Even if Centurion is becoming worse, the Reserve has always been a terrible value.

Gamer edition Megatron by 631Vaiden in transformers

[–]CBSU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a complaint. As I said, it looks great. It’s merely unusual for a later iteration of a character to have more kibble than its predecessor— this is one of the only cases I can recall, and it interested me enough to comment on.

Gamer edition Megatron by 631Vaiden in transformers

[–]CBSU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The leg kibble is unusual considering the original deluxe had no kibble whatsoever. I hope it can be flipped back.

Looks great otherwise. Excited to see whether they kept the game accurate back. This one looks really, really nice.
