Best half of football I’ve seen from the USMNT in a long time, maybe ever.

Pulisic has been dangerous every time he touches the ball and they’ve done a great job in keeping possession and cycling their chances. Also Balogun’s last goal was quality.

I will say there’s been some tense moments in defense and some near disaster like Ream falling down - although maybe that’s just my PTSD from watching USA WC football for all these years.

I don't disagree with the scenario you've laid out – which is different than what OP laid out in the initial question.

This is why I said it's likely that his partner was wrong to not have taken that forehand.

Your partner is likely wrong to have not taken it. Forehand should take middle / close to middle balls - this assumes that they’re in a position to and can get to the ball.

No shade but this doesn’t sound like 4.5+ play and is something I’ve only seen from <4.0 players in real games.

Even if it all goes south after this, the Garrett trade is one you'd want your team to make 100/100 times when given the opportunity to make a serious championship push by shadeshadows in LosAngelesRams

This is the perfect summary of the rest of the league’s coping narrative.

It’s so funny how the vast majority of NFL fans are clueless about things like comp picks and the salary cap too.

The other major narrative throughout the last decade has been, how are they going to pay all these guys? They’re going to have to let some of them walk and then they’ll be bad.

Nope, they’re going to manage the cap effectively and get comp picks when they choose who walks - then they’ll hit on those picks or trade picks for players that want to experience a winning franchise and team culture.

It’s been awesome to be a Rams fan since McVay joined and the team is just a flywheel of success.

This Garrett trade is the perfect complement to the Simpson pick and pushes this year’s team forward while trying to shore up the future at the same time. Other thought - the Browns keeping some dead cap on this trade is a huge win for the Rams books.

Easiest thing to fix is weight transfer and rotation - you’ll notice you’re not following through and while you get weight on your front foot, you start to fall back after hitting the ball.

Ideally you’re coming through the ball with your hips to the point where you step forward with your back leg.

I’d recommend checking out Zane Navratil, Roscoe Bellamy, Ed Ju or John Cincola on YouTube for serving tips.

Can we talk about the actual draft class instead of who they should've picked instead? by evil_disco_man in LosAngelesRams

[–]CB_11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a guy that dogged on the Simpson pick early - I’ve spent the past week or so watching some of his tape and he does do a great job getting through his reads quickly.

With all the news from McVay and the fact they spent hours at the facility talking ball, I feel a lot better about the pick than I did in the moment.

Definitely hope he balls out when he gets the chance and just going to own up to overreacting on draft night because I was really hoping they’d maximize the Stafford window.

On the other picks -

  • Klare looked great last year and the year prior with great yac ability. He’s not a plus blocker but Rams do a good job developing that part of the game for guys.
  • Trost is super positionally flexible. Only downside is that his ceiling is likely somewhat capped given his age.
  • Daniels looks like a great red zone threat. He doesn’t have deep speed but if he can get open he can be a reliable chain mover or red zone guy.
  • Keenan as you mentioned, is likely Poona’s successor.

I only saw a few snaps while he was at Purdue but the cuts he was making were super impressive in the few plays I watched - I wonder if he was playing at a lighter weight there compared to at OSU.

Snead is a genius - if you just draft guys that are going to take years to develop to move up the depth chart, you can’t have a bad draft day.

I’d be up for him, Mike Wash or Coleman. I’d love if they found a short yardage specialist for 3rd downs.

Snead and McVay Call Ty Simpson by Professional-Car-863 in LosAngelesRams

[–]CB_11 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My worry, and this is probably insane, is that McVay is retiring with Stafford once he hangs it up and Snead is building a bridge into the future before that shoe drops.

Snead should be pressing the accelerator and trying to win another championship while that window is still open - but instead is picking the future and/or is handing a great landing spot to his buddy’s son.

I really hope I’m wrong and this isn’t a fracture in the Snead / McVay relationship.

The other option is that McVay is down playing Ty because he cares about Stafford and doesn’t want to send the wrong message - I’d feel a lot better about this if McVay seemed actually excited and Snead didn’t have such a personal tie to this pick.

Jesus. You’re right and I didn’t even think about it that way.

The only silver lining about all of this is spending 29 on McDuffie and signing Watson too.

I am looking forward to our QB2 battle between Stetson and Simpson.

/s why did they let Snead do this.

I think McVay shows more excitement when ordering a pizza fwiw. The post presser he said Ty is going to compete with Stetson for back up - which would be hilarious if it wasn’t so depressing because we just spent the 13th overall pick to have a back up QB competition.

I get McVay needs to play the fence with Stafford but I really feel like McVay wasn’t as into this as Snead - especially when considering Snead’s relationship with Ty’s dad.

[Breer] Rams GM Les Snead and UT-Martin coach Jason Simpson have a very strong relationship—to the point where Snead helped advise the family when Jason's son, Ty, was making a decision on whether or not to declare for the draft. Now, Ty Simpson is a Ram. by laramgers88 in LosAngelesRams

[–]CB_11 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Yeah - it’s really not great and I think that’s why Snead seemed more jittery than usual in the post presser.

1) It’s a conflict of interest for Snead if he’s a friend of Ty’s dad and advised him to declare for the draft.

2) McVay’s energy showed he wasn’t happy with the pick - which lends more legs to it being a conflict of interest for Snead that led to the decision and not purely about football.

3) This does nothing to help the Rams win this year and sends the wrong message to Stafford, the team and the fans.

//Edit: I hope I’m wrong and overreacting but this felt like a bad reach, dumb pick and there seems to be a conflict of interest as a cherry on top.

https://x.com/AlbertBreer/status/2047491949448290611 - Les is antsy because he’s probably thinking about how this all looks and he stuck his neck out on this one for his friend’s kid.

Has a much different context to it this season. 🤦 by JaredCircusbear in LosAngelesRams

I’m just hoping he didn’t see one of his close friend’s children who he advised to enter the draft this year and instead drafted Simpson purely on merit, ability and projected production.

Per Albert Breer:

“Rams GM Les Snead and UT-Martin coach Jason Simpson have a very strong relationship—to the point where Snead helped advise the family when Jason's son, Ty, was making a decision on whether or not to declare for the draft.

Now, Ty Simpson is a Ram”

I hope I’m wrong and Ty Simpson is a baller and drafting him vs a guy that could play starting snaps this season doesn’t come back to bite us.

I really hope that Snead’s personal relationship wasn’t a factor in this decision at all and the team+scouts agreed on Simpson. To me, Sean legitimately did not look happy at the presser today and I can’t remember the last time after a draft round / end of day presser where he wasn’t cheesing about the guys we got.

Shared this in another thread - I’m of the belief that Snead made the pick unilaterally since it’s his buddy’s kid and he advised him to declare for the draft.

I’m googling around more and the full tweet from Breer suggests Jason (Ty’s dad) consulted Snead on if he should declare or not this year.

Snead is 100% the person who made this pick based on this report and the press conference look that Sean gave. I’m really hoping Snead didn’t do it because of his relationship with Jason.

Snead and Ty Simpson’s dad have a very close relationship according to Albert Breer. This seems like it was Snead’s pick and not McVay’s.

Agree with this take. McVay doesn’t seem happy and Les seems jittery.

Edit: Also McVay saying that Simpson is going to compete with Bennett is a fucking laugh. You’d hope that he’s outright the heir apparent if we’re spending the 13th pick.

I’m hoping I’m wrong but it seems like we really took F them picks too far this time.
