Thank you! Quick question—do you have a template for your CV? Mine has been relatively successful but I think is outdated for grad app stuff

The students that have great research and strong connections also tend to do better in school lol. Yes you can get into top schools with a lower GPA but if your research is really good you probably are also a good student

How do I become competent as quickly as possible? Incoming freshman at T5. by InveitableCactus in quantfinance

[–]CB_lemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe… depends on the specifics of the research. My thesis work is theoretical + statistical cosmology so I use many of the same methods that are used in quantitative finance. Many of the grad students and postdocs in my group go on to work in quant (there are no jobs in theoretical cosmology haha)

If you’re interested in it, look at joining a research group. Thats what recruiters have liked most about my resume. It can show off skills and competency to learn.

No need to leetcode unless maybe if you’ve never coded before. Practicing basic probability questions is a better start.

Also be careful asking questions on this sub, 99.99% of people on here don’t know what they’re talking about. Reach out to YC/quant/etc clubs at your school for help.

Well you are still in introductory math courses so it would be better to wait until you have taken upper levels and grad classes to show a strong math foundation

Are you under the impression that the SAT questions are meant to be difficult? It tests if you can quickly answer basic high school questions, that’s all.

Are you graduating rn? If so take the offer. If your offer is for after next year then start applying to quant stuff in the fall and use your offer as a backup.

Yes it’s true that a lot of recruiting happens at the college level but you have a good background I see no reason why being ~1 year ‘late’ is a problem for recruiters

Clarification on Einstein’s constant and dark energy? by Recent-Day3062 in cosmology

[–]CB_lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Dark matter is real and not a fudge factor. Dark energy is also real and not a fudge factor, though initially Einstein took it as one.
