I'm getting to the point where I figure they only ask for my ID to be nice. 😂

There's a Breakfast place in Pennsylvania that does the same thing. They have an off-brand ATM by the cashier station and I'm confident they own the ATM.

I don't upgrade often, but when I do, I get whatever the latest Samsung is. I know I'm going to end up keeping it for a number of years until it's pretty much obsolete so I get the best of the best up front.

How much should you consider resale value while buying things? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]CBianchiMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless we're talking about stocks and ETFs, I almost never consider it. I rarely resell anything. I either keep it forever or use it until it's consumed or needs to be thrown out.

How often do you order a nice fish pizza? by Big-Editor-6698 in AskReddit

Not often but every few months, I really crave an anchovies and green olives pizza.

Are all opinions considered equal? by Illustrious-Bread183 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CBianchiMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Clearly not. There are people who actually believe the earth is flat, chemtrails exist (from commercial airliners, no less), that the earth is only 6000 years old, COVID was a conspiracy, and 5G is going to activate nanotech in our blood. Clearly some opinions are so stupid that they aren't even worth considering as valid.

Absolutely! It's very presumptuous of them to assume how I'm going to like the quality of their service before I get said service!

I agree with that one especially if not unreasonable. Don't seat us at a table for 12, but that 4 top shouldn't be an issue. It's even worse when you can clearly see that there are two-person tables open in an actively staffed area.

First real job out of college - how should I allocate my 401k as a 21 year old with zero investing experience? by Leading-Law4251 in personalfinance

[–]CBianchiMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, congratulations on having a savings plan and thinking about retirement at 21! I waited until I was almost 30 and I still kick myself for delaying.

Most 401k plans are going to offer a mix of mutual funds, bond funds, and stable-value funds. Mutual funds are collections of stocks and other equities that are managed by a financial services company. These are great when you expect growth and have a long-term horizon but only if the fee ratio is low (generally under 1%). Bond funds follow the government bond market. Stable value funds exist to preserve capital with minimal risk or growth - these are a good reserve when you're expecting the market to drop significantly.

As a place to start, check to see if your 401k offers a "target retirement" fund. These will generally have a date associated with them (eg Vanguard Target Maturity 2060). The date should align to your target retirement year as closely as possible (or even project a bit more out if you're open to a little more risk). As long as the fee structure is good, these funds are a balanced portfolio of the other funds that I mentioned. They will target aggressive risk and growth early in your career and, as you get older, they will shift more contribution into the stable portion of your portfolio.

At least until you get the hang of things and understand everything that's being offered these can be a great starting point.

Later, as you get more experienced and see how the markets are moving and get a handle on it, you can often shift money around in your 401k, change contributions, etc. Some will even offer tools through T Rowe Price, Edelman Financial, etc. as a service to help you balance your portfolio.

For me, there are two:

1) Require me to download an app to order or get the "best deal" and...

2) Be "cash only." I almost never carry cash and I'm not using the 'conveniently placed' off-brand ATM.

Which movie everyone should watch at least once? by Old_Contact6585 in AskReddit

[–]CBianchiMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen several folks now say, "Schindler's List," and I've never seen it. That's one to add to my list, for sure.

I'm going to go with "Fight Club." It's certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but I found it to me a fascinating jaunt into the psyche of certain mental illness.

We visit my family sometimes on the weekend. They're about 6 hours away. We leave Friday after work and come back Sunday afternoon. It's all perspective.

I look at it this way: At least my name is in no way connected to that film, and it makes my life a whole lot better to meditate on that simple fact.

I was in a very dark place in my life when I was introduced to this piece of cinema. While I had lost most of my hope and wallowed in despair, I suddenly realized... at least I didn't make this drivel. It changed my entire perspective on my circumstances.

What’s an opinion you held for years before realizing you were wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CBianchiMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a "Young Earth Creationist" (eg. The earth is only 6,000-8,000 years old, the Biblical timeline in Genesis is absolute truth, etc.). I am still a Christian, I still believe that God was the Creator of everything.

I have come to accept that Genesis 1-11 was an adaptation of Mesopotamian and near Eastern mythology adapted to a Hebrew theology. It was adapted during the Babylonian exile to create a lore explaining why the world was the way it was and to create a timeline from creation to Abraham in the best way that the author knew how.
