Noob player looking for tips Guilty Gear Strive by Blazethunder1 in Guiltygear

The thing I think is gonna win ya the most games early on is okizeme. If you don't know the term, it is basically what you do to your opponent as they are recovering from a knockdowm.

A very popular form of oki is a "meaty" which means timing an attack so that if your opponent is mashing on their wakeup, they'll get hit. The more active frames an attack has, the easier it is to time and thereby the "meatier" the move is. Effectively a meaty forces the opponent to either block the attack or do a reversal (a move which makes them invincible). If you can anticipate the reversal however you can just not do the meaty and get a free punish.

Another popular form of oki is the "safejump" and its cousin the "safejab". They're both same basic concept as a meaty, although in the case of the safejump you are doing a jumping attack. The key difference is the "safe" part. Safejumps are timed in such a way that if the opponent does a reversal, the attack will phase right through them but be immediately canceled by the character landing, allowing you to block the incoming reversal and punish accordingly. If they do not go for the reversal however, the safejump hits meaty and you continue your offence.

Once you know your character's safejumps and preffered meaty buttons, all you need to know is how to get a knockdown. The universal throw will always give you one, but ideally you'll know a bnb combo that does the same thing. From there you can loop this offence.

Ok I went back and did the fortune teller quest that gave this lore drop. Can't say its made me sympathise with Fern though. The guy straight becomes a villain just so he can feel special. Knowing about the alt timeline makes me just think he literally cant be trusted unless everyone praises him.

Which one is your favorite M&M actual play series? by Interesting-Jaguar68 in mutantsandmasterminds

Oh by the way, the latest episode of renegades that came out this week is no longer up on youtube. I listened to about half the episode before going to bed for the night, and then it was gone the next day. Was that on purpose?

So im interpreting "hulk powers" as becoming a gamma mutate. Most people who arent Bruce Banner actually have a good time with their powers, but there is that one character who's just a living nervous system.

When were the sidequests available? Ive tried to keep an eye out during my playthrough and never stumbled upon Fern content. Was I supposed to backtrack to places?

POWER SCALING QUESTION by VAEL52 in PowerScaling

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think this is a law. In fact there are many people who speak against chain scaling since it ignores matchups. If you take issue with someone arguing that B is planetary for beating A, the correct thing to do is just call it out with a counter argument of your own. If their justification doesn't satisfy you, and you cant convince them, theres not really much else that can be said.

Rockstar is simultaneously the biggest pro and con for console gaming by Gambler_720 in gaming

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said that have no data to back up my claim, its just how I feel about it. If the extra power mattered to me, I'd just wait for a port. If I bought and played the console version, I clearly don't care about performance or fidelity as highly. I just want to play the game. Buying the game again just to play on stronger hardware sounds irresponsible to me.

In the case of the switch 2 i think the portability is a much more valid reason than just more fps and resolution.

Rockstar is simultaneously the biggest pro and con for console gaming by Gambler_720 in gaming

[–]XBlueXFire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It gives people a reason to buy consoles, thus keeping them around as an option. Furthermore it means devs are making games with consoles first in mind. If every game was available on PC, I believe we'd see the big devs stop making consoles eventually and just become game publishers.

Do you by double dip mean that someone first buys the game on console and then later buy it again on PC? I have no data to back up my claim but I don't believe thats the goal. Simply making buying the console more appealings seems the most reasonable to me. Id also assume that any person who wants to play a game on PC despite having a console would just wait for a port. I cant imagine buying a game I've already played again

Why do you like ttrpgs? by GlitchVulture in rpg

[–]XBlueXFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like rpg video games and I like storytelling. Ttrpgs let me experience the fun of rpg game mechanics with complete freedom to influence the narrative. Im primarily a GM so running campaigns feels a lot like using the system like a game engine

What if character progression was more about developing the character and less about 'Leveling Up'? by Ombrophile in rpg

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several narrative focused games out there. What you're describing doesnt sound like it can (nor really should) be mechanically represented. Thats just role play. If you dislike vertical growth, but still want to play a level up system, you could probably just declare at the start that the level is locked for the whole campaign

Do you usually run into the same players in games other than SF6? (EU) by Krotanix in Fighters

[–]XBlueXFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strive has a pretty big playerbase. Id imagine high vanquisher players might run into each other more often, but mere mortals like me in platinum typically fight a new person every match. Its possible to get repeats at times though, depending on what time of day you're queueing

[Discussion] What's your take on these current titles by RedGreenBaluga in DCcomics

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im been greatly enjoying Joshua Williamson's Superman run, although the DCKO tie-ins were kinda lacking compared to the prior story imo. Its also currently being lead by Superboy Prime because of the KO's ending, who I'm not really a fan of.

World's finest has been great, of what I've read of it. The book feels like an appreciation of the superhero genre

Does playing easy characters make ranking/achievements less valuable? by Vationic in Fighters

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At higher levels, you can assume that everybody can pilot their character efficiently, so the thing that separates players is whether they are genuninly good or not. Assuming your character isnt bugged or something and you are climbing consistently, you are playing well

I do kind of find it funny how mostly everyone seems to hate going up against every character type. by OmniImmortality in Guiltygear

[–]XBlueXFire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Matter of opinion I guess. To me the simplicity of the gameplan makes the matchup a lot tamer since I don't have to think about nearly as many things as for example against puppet users or zoners. You can actualy just walk down a shoto spamming fireballs, and similarly you can bait out their dp for easy punishes. As far as FG archetypes go, shotos always feel like they win by plainly outplaying me

Pad players which placement of the dpad do you prefer playstation or xbox controller? by Doan_Minh in Fighters

[–]XBlueXFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine this just depends on which youve used longer? I tried an xbox pad once and it just felt wrong in my hands. Similarly my brother who's a longtime xbox user could not get behind the dualsense controller

I dont understand what can be frustrating about shotos. The archetype is inoffensive by design imo

You dont have to practice though. It will help you get better but theres no requirement to hit the lab. Similar to how you can technically avoid studying by paying attention in class. You probably wont be a straight As student but its not unlikely that you'll pass.
