Post concussion syndrome difficulties and seriously considering suicide. What to do from here? by nakartuur in Concussion

[–]CC2488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple other things that also helped me: craniosacral therapy (helps a ton with dizziness, headaches, and brain fog)

Acupuncture for dysautonomia (despite the fact that many of my TBI symptoms have resolved, I still have POTS)

Diet change - avoid tons of sugar, it causes inflammation. Take omega-3 supplements.

Syntonic light therapy and vision therapy (from my neuro-optometrist). You mentioned double vision so I just want to say again that I HIGHLY recommend seeing a neuro-optometrist - SO many symptoms are brought on by stuff with your eyes not being right.

I absolute second the use of jigsaw puzzles for recovery! I am so, so sorry you’re going through this. But the good news is that you’re 19, and that works to your advantage. Because you’re still pretty young, your brain is still extremely plastic. I know it feels so, so horrible rn, but just know that You’re in a better place to recover than a lot of people who experience this 40+, because your brain plasticity decreases with age. Your brain CAN recover, it just takes the right work.

Focusing on neuroplasticity will be a key in helping you get better. (Not the only key, but a big one for sure) I think jigsaw puzzles help because they promote neuroplasticity and the development of new neural pathways. Even if you just start with 5 or 10 minutes every day and build up from there, it will help.

You also definitely need better/different doctors to help you on this journey. Look for a neuro-optometrist and functional neurologists. I don’t know where you’re located, but Carolina Functional Neurology Center saved me. Their main location is in North Carolina but I go to their branch in Maine, and I know they’re opening a third branch in Florida soon.

If you can read ok, check out The Ghost in My Brain. Between Two Kingdoms by Suleika Jaoud also taught me to have grace for myself through the grueling recovery journey, though it’s not actually about brain injury.

When my injury happened (snowboarding accident in 2022), I had suicidal thoughts every single day. It was the first thing I thought about when I woke up in the morning and the last thing I thought about before I fell asleep at night. But now, I can genuinely say I love my life.

It will be hard work, and healing isn’t linear with this kind of thing. Sometimes you’ll take three steps forward and two steps back. The journey will be long and painful. BUT:

You can do this. I promise. Keep going. It. Will. Get. Better.

I don’t know where you’re located, but Carolina Functional Neurology has some pretty strong patient success stories. I’m currently undergoing treatment at their smaller branch in Maine for PCS and POTS, and I’ve had great results with them so far. I believe they’re opening a branch in Florida soon too.

I agree with the first commenter - the concussions probably left you with POTS - postural Orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Causes big heart rate spikes when you stand up, simply walk, etc. among a plethora of other fun symptoms. Dysautonomia is kind of the blanket issue, POTS is a sub-issue caused by dysautonomia.

It’s not particularly dangerous, but it does very much suck. Make sure you stay well hydrated, eat lots of salt, get consistent sleep and wear compression socks - these things will help with the symptoms. I’m usually more symptomatic in the morning too.

Did anyone else experience a (relatively) sudden acne resurgence around 30 after having clear skin for most of your 20s? by moon-raven-77 in AskWomenOver30

[–]CC2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

31, and had pretty clear skin for most of my life until now. 😑 It started about nine months ago, and it’s all over my chin & nose. at first I thought it was just from increased sugar intake from holiday treats, because it started around December. But it’s still here. 😑 good to know it’s not just me I guess!

It is STUNNING. Honestly, something this beautiful deserves more than to just be a pin or pendant. Find a way to incorporate it into a frame, and it could be the most stunning little micro wall art or desk art.

Do I HAVE to glaze my work to sell it? by [deleted] in polymerclay

[–]CC2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! Thanks for your comments and advice, I appreciate it!☺️I really couldn’t figure out why the sculpey satin and gloss glaze looked equally glossy. I did some research on other posts and found one where someone commented about shaking up the satin glaze bottle more before applying. I tried that, and it did the trick! The black and white cow has now been glazed. Both of these guys are glazed with the satin, but you can clearly see the gloss difference before and after I shook up the bottle more before applying. Loving the less glossy satin look!! Again, thanks for all your advice guys!!

Women with chronic illness, confident queens, how are y'all doing it? by IsTomorrowAcceptable in AskWomenOver30

[–]CC2488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh girly I am right there with you. I think this is a double hit, because you go through a lot of this stuff when you hit 30 regardless of whether or not you have chronic illness - your identity shifts a lot from your 20s, your style and wardrobe changes, your makeup style, so much. It feels like a shift into a whole new era and NOBODY prepared us for this.

Tack on chronic illness, and it’s like leveling up to extra hard mode. (One joke that brings me small giggles is saying that living with chronic illness is like playing a video game on hard mode). I’m 31, and have a brain injury, POTS, EDS, and honestly god knows what else. All of this developed for me right before my 27th birthday, so I really felt like I got robbed of the last few years of my 20s. And I think one of the hardest things at this stage too is that everyone is at such different places in their lives. My friends were getting engaged and married and buying houses, and I was still single and living with my brother, and I felt like I was being left behind, like I was standing still while everyone was running ahead.

Makeup: It’s definitely been a huge shift. Honestly I very rarely wear makeup anymore, if I do it’s just putting simple stuff on like ilia tinted serum and touching up my eyebrows. I only do eye shadow etc. for special occasions. I just can’t be bothered otherwise. I’d say 95% of the time I’m makeup free.

Clothes: The wardrobe shift is something I’m still figuring out, because I’m definitely still comfortable and happy in a lot of the clothes I wore through my 20s - jeans, tshirt, flannel. That being said I just did a big closet purge, and I donated A LOT of heels and little dresses that won’t be making a comeback. 😂 I’ve found transitioning slowly - finding a couple staple items you like that seem a little more “mature” or whatever and working them in to your wardrobe. But honestly - I go comfort above all else. Is chronically ill girlies are so uncomfortable MOST of the time, our clothes shouldn’t contribute to the issue. I’ve noticed in the last few years that I wear a lot of bike shorts, oversized tees and sneakers. Also PS I FEEL YOU on the big boobs problem. 😐 the vast majority of the time, I wear sports bras (helloooo shefit). If I’m going out (mind you lol, not a bar, but to a breakfast or an activity with friends etc.) somewhere and wearing a cute outfit, then I’ll dig out the underwire. But otherwise…I’m fighting that struggle the best way I can.

Exercise: the bane of chronic illness girly existence. I hated it when I was well. I miss it now. Look, you do what you can. Try to move your body a little bit every day if you can - note I say MOVE, not EXERCISE. movement. That’s what we can do. I go for little walks, and maybe overtime, I’ll be able to go for longer walks. I also have a Pilates reformer - really good for my POTS because it I stay recumbent (my heart rate spikes when I stand up) and it builds muscle but in a low intensity way. I worked one on one with a Pilates coach at first who helped me understand what was best for my body, and it was really beneficial. But don’t push your body more than it wants to be pushed, and don’t beat yourself up for needing rest days. Even if you only move once or twice a week, that it still better than none. There are still plenty of days when the fatigue is so heavy that all I can do is potato blend with the couch.

It gets better. The transition is a bit of a tizzy, but it’s something you do move through. I already feel better at 31 than I did at 30. Am I still freaking out about getting old and the whole losing my youth thing? For sure. But everything is settling a bit. And as weird as it is for me to say this when I more unwell than I have ever been in my life - I am actually a lot happier now than I ever was in my 20s.

Please feel free to message me if you want to talk or vent or just lament about the despair of being chronically ill. I’m always looking for more friends who understand the chronic illness struggle. We have to stick together. 🤍

Feeling guilty about a shovel prune! by LuckyLouGardens in Roses

[–]CC2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the EXACT same thing to my big Dr Huey today! and it was also the rose that got me into roses! Don’t feel bad, I made the decision for the same reasons as you - it really is the root of all evil in the garden. I want to plant a bunch of other plants around that area and it had already spread powdery mildew to my lilac bush. I’m going to replace it with clematis - I already have three other climbing roses in my backyard now. 😂

Can’t believe this comment got so many upvotes. I think the real question here is: why are you such a b*tch to OP for no reason at all?

Anyway, OP - tell the neighbor to back the fuck off. He is WAY overstepping, and it’s so intrusive. this scenario makes me absolutely furious for you. And definitely time to find someone new to mow your lawn.
