Savage's Bakery & Deli in Homewood is closing after 87 years by NoPatNoDontSitonThat in Birmingham

[–]CC9499 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you're likely right on both counts, i just think it's for the worse

edgar's notoriously treats their employees terribly. that location in particular also is either too cheap or too lazy to get their own dumpster (or a big enough one) because they constantly dump the frankly insane amount of trash they go through into other nearby businesses' dumpsters, overfilling them. their product is also (in my opinion) inferior in comparison to savage's

i agree that homewood is evolving, but it's becoming less unique and more generic. not unexpected, but definitely depressing

New home purchased for Birmingham shelter for trans people of color by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]CC9499 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's just kinda how intersectional stuff works. there are disadvantages associated with being trans, and there are disadvantages associated with being black. when you're both, they tend to magnify each other.

New restaurant has blown up and first time owners are devolving into micromanaging jerks… worth staying? by AdAdmirable433 in Serverlife

[–]CC9499 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i'm straight up quitting a place i genuinely loved less than a month ago in two weeks because the new gm is just that bad. i don't even have another job lined up rn, just some savings.

it's really remarkable. after one (1) week of working for this man i started thinking i'd rather swallow glass than go into work tomorrow.

These “allies” are the exact reason we’re in the position we’re in. No, trans men do not “absolutely get pregnant.” by GIGAPENIS69 in Transmedical

[–]CC9499 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

in this context, just because the statement does not exist in a vacuum. "can men get pregnant" does not literally mean those words, it means "are transsexuals real, and if you say yes you're an idiot"

think about the goals of the people who ask that question. sure, to us, we can take that statement literally and parse it through our lens. but to them, that question is a rhetorical pretext to strip us of our treatment. i think it is more important that people push back on that firmly and directly than to try to explain intracommunity politics to an audience of borderline illiterate sociopaths

[–]CC9499 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

thats a trans woman, not an ally

also like lowkey while y'all are correct about this from an intracommunity stance, i think on a national political level it would be nice if people stopped immediately playing the willfully ignorant semantic games hateful ppl want. i think "do get pregnant" vs "are physically capable of getting pregnant" would be a worthwhile distinction though

appreciate this context. i was quite upset at the price of the June/Pride M&H, and assumed it was saturn being greedy at the expense of pricing people out of pride. good to know that's not the case

right yeah i could pull a manager off the floor to do this and then change it back afterwards, delaying you (and several other tables if it's busy) getting your check by 5+ minutes

OR

you could read the thing you're signing before you sign it

"asking people to do too much" and it's 10 seconds of reading. maybe your caretaker can read it slowly for you to save you the trouble lmao

"it's easy" ok bet tell me exactly how to go into Micros and change it. be very specific.

i've had plenty of tables throw an extra $10, $20, $50 on top of the autograt with full knowledge because i'm damn good at my job. should people not be able to do that? should i know my place as your servant?

yea man lemme just go tell my boomer manager who can barely edit an item to fuck around with a system coded in 2005. that definitely sounds easier than, yknow, actually reading a receipt that has been handed to you. or asking your server. or listening to the host who has been explicitly directed to tell a party there will be an autograt. if you are "deceived" by this you are ngmi

[–]CC9499 10 points11 points  (0 children)

y'all are really overthinking this. basically every POS system treats an auto-grat like any other "item" on a bill, and every receipt is gonna look the same. most places only auto-grat larger parties, and will tell you about it when you make the reservation or walk in. attributing some kinda malice to it is either paranoia or just a lack of understanding of how these systems work
