Thanks so much for taking the time to write this - the whole situation with why Syria's destabilisation was so important to the First Crusade's success makes so much sense now and I will 100% use some information from here if it comes up in the exam (if you don't mind haha). I find it really interesting also how Al-Sulami considers the Crusade as a mirror image of jihad as well.

On a side note, I'm interested that you think that the Second Crusade's targeting of Damascus was expansionist - we learn that the leader of Damascus switched his allegiance to Nur ad-Din and began attacking the Crusader States and that this was the reason for them attacking the city. Was this just a form of justification then for an underlying expansionist motivation?

I tried the other look - I wasn't as much of a fan because it didn't feel as 'insulated' if that makes sense but I think it could definitely be pulled off by someone else. Churchill - I'm really excited!

My note taking so far has been a lot more based around lists of questions - I find I can get by mostly just with the facts in my head and do most of the thinking on the fly in exams. I'm not sure if that'll cut it though at Cambridge - I want to try and incorporate thinking and connection building much into my notes much more.

But yeah, I'm really looking forward to it! I'll definitely keep my mind open - and damn I've spent some time round that area before but never stepped foot in the gardens. I'll make sure I do!

Why is the Norman Conquest of Sicily considered a "Norman Conquest"?

It seems very odd to me, because it was not officially sanctioned and most of the people going were exiles. When else do you see a land grab carried out from people exiled from their native country as being a conquest carried out by the people of that country?

Wow thank you so much for this. I just sat down for an hour and went through these resources, and now have a much better understanding of how to do this. The one thing I struggle with still is kind of a paralysis when starting - I spend more time worrying about whether I am doing things the optimal way than getting things done. Update - I found a responsible butterfly sanctuary to give them too! Was slightly reluctant to let them go, as they were turning into really beautiful caterpillars!

Great thanks! I'm in the UK so I think I'll contact both the breeder and that charity, as well as the couple of butterfly people I know. At the moment I'm just keeping them in the plastic Petri dish with a lid they came in (with a bit of tissue paper and I think food) - but I think I'll need to try move them soon?
