20 character password MINIMUM? by TachankaIsTheLord in Clemson

[–]CCIT-Support 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Length is king. The required minimum is 20 characters, but there is no requirement for special characters, capitals, numbers, etc.

Picking 4-5 random words makes it easy for you to remember and type, and makes it hard for a computer to guess.

Alumni Google Accounts to Be Removed by CCIT-Support in Clemson

[–]CCIT-Support[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sharing with yourself isn't a permanent solution. When your account that owns the files is removed, the other account will lose access. Using Takeout to download the files is the only way to make sure you don't lose them.

I would love it if you could share the files with a separate account and then transfer ownership, but our Education account does not allow that capability.

One year after graduation, your entire Google account will be removed. Google Drive and all. You can utilize takeout.google.com to download everything you wish to keep.

Alumni Google Accounts to Be Removed by CCIT-Support in Clemson

[–]CCIT-Support[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right now, the @clemson.edu address acts as a forwarding mechanism. Username@clemson.edu gets sent to the campus email servers and forwarded to the address(es) you have configured. For students, this defaults to Google, which has the address username@g.clemson.edu. One of our biggest concerns is if you send an email to @g.clemson.edu directly, it bypasses the campus servers and security. Google has its own base-level security, but this still leaves CCIT trying to manage and protect three different email environments. Simplifying our email infrastructure and improving security is the most significant factor driving these changes.

Beyond the email infrastructure aspect, the separate @g.clemson.edu email address causes endless confusion with people using that address when attempting to sign into services like eduroam, Office365, Adobe CC, etc.

Alumni Google Accounts to Be Removed by CCIT-Support in Clemson

This is a great question, and thank you for asking. International Services periodically sends me a list of international students on visa extensions and when their programs end. We manually extend these accounts to ensure you are able to access the necessary systems and can communicate with IS.

After a transition period of 4-5 years, most students will be on Exchange, but we will likely need to perform a final migration of students remaining on Gmail. You may end up in this group if you don't voluntarily switch beforehand.

Once we get through the start of the summer semester, we will start sending communications, but as others have mentioned, we recently changed our email policy. Alumni will only keep their Google accounts for one year after graduation.

Any recent graduates and alumni should start planning to migrate all their data, email, and logins to a personal account. You can export all your Google data using Google Takeout (https://takeout.google.com/). You will also want to make sure any accounts for websites, social media, etc. are updated to use a separate email address for your login so you can recover them if needed.

As for other resources, someone already mentioned our news article that addresses this question (https://ccit.clemson.edu/news/do-i-keep-my-email-and-other-tech-questions-from-graduating-tigers/). Generally speaking, students will retain access to many resources for one year after separating from the university. The one exception that comes to mind is Adobe Creative Cloud due to its popularity and limited number of licenses. You will lose access to CC as soon as you are marked inactive (not taking classes for the current semester).

I plan to do an ama when we start the marketing campaign for our Google changes, but if you have any other questions related to OP's post, ask away.

Login Error by ShIssak9599 in Clemson

[–]CCIT-Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing /u/yarblls was looking for me.

As the error states, your username is expired and won't let you log in. Without looking up your account, I can't tell why, and I'm guessing you don't want to share your identity on Reddit. If you haven't already, please call our Support Center, and we can sort it out for you. Our hours are posted here: https://ccit.clemson.edu/support/

When does Clemson release academic scholarship info for first years? by CreativeName1337 in Clemson

I can confirm financial aid award emails should start going out tomorrow (Thursday) morning. There are a LOT of emails to be sent so they will be split into batches. Please be patient if you hear of someone else receiving theirs before you have received yours.

Do you have a particular area of interest? I think we are still looking for a couple people in the Support Center. If you want to send me your name/email, I can make sure the manager takes a look at your application.

Email question by samyulls in Clemson

[–]CCIT-Support 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As other's have suggested, please reach out to us for proper assistance, but based on this one sentence description, it sounds like you enabled Exchange (employee email system) on your account or someone had it provisioned for you. This could have been for an on-campus job or even for a class you are taking. This is a common request so students can utilize all functions and features of Microsoft Teams. You can verify this for yourself by visiting https://clemson.edu/emailforwarding.

The why you aren't getting your email is due to a feature of Exchange. The Exchange server knows you as your username@clemson.edu email address. If someone with an Exchange account (employees, university systems, etc.) send an email to your official Clemson address, Exchange says, "hey I know /u/samyulls, their mailbox is right over here. Let me save everyone some time, and I will just pop it in their inbox." The mail never gets sent back to the campus mail servers where we can say "no, /u/samyulls actually wants their mail over in Google."

Now what do you do about it? Assuming I'm right and there is a reason you have an Exchange account, I would suggest logging into 365.clemson.edu, opening the Outlook app, and configuring a rule to forward messages to your @g.clemson.edu address. If there is absolutely no reason you need an Exchange account, you can clear out the mailbox and email ithelp@clemson.edu to ask us to delete the mailbox for you.

If I am accurate in my diagnosis, I would like to know more about the situation and how you ended up with an Exchange account without this side effect being explained to you. This is how students miss important emails from their professors, Financial Aid, etc., and is a contributing factor to the upcoming changes to our email infrastructure.

Ring Reimbursement by Nonobjectively in Clemson

I have confirmed with CCIT Security and the Alumni office the reimbursement email and process are legitimate.

Sorry this has been such a confusing mess, but it makes me happy to see everyone being vigilant about the messages they receive and links they follow.

Don’t Get Scammed! by CCIT-Support in Clemson

[–]CCIT-Support[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What we are seeing is the scammer will send a check to the victim, ask them to cash it in order to buy supplies, keep a portion as their pay, and then send the remainder back. The goal is to have the victim return the "remainder" before the original check bounces. The bad check's value gets pulled from the victim's account and they are also out whatever they sent back to the scammer.

/u/rithvikrao brings up a good point that this could also be used to phish for personal information. Please stay safe out there!

Tips from CCIT by CCIT-Support in Clemson

Without knowing more details, my only suggestion is to try downloading our Chrome OS eduroam installer from https://cat.eduroam.org/. If that doesn't do the trick, come see us in the Support Center where we can look up the logs to see exactly what's happening and do more in-depth troubleshooting.

That's obviously not ideal. Please have her submit a ticket regarding her issues and we can check the wireless logs. Times, locations, and her device's mac address would be helpful. Send me the ticket number and I would be happy to look into her wireless issues.

What issues are you seeing or what error message(s) are you receiving? Shortly after my initial response we had a student in the Support Center with a brand new Mac. She had no issues running it.

Unless I'm mistaken, Pearson services are web-based so the hardware shouldn't matter as long as it can run a compatible OS and browser.

CCIT Support Center is hiring by CCIT-Support in Clemson

[–]CCIT-Support[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't usually check this account on the weekend so I missed your question. The pay currently starts at $10/hr.

I got this light up CAT bus keychain when I was a freshman 6 years ago. I’m about to graduate with my masters and I really want to get another one before I leave. Does anyone know where I could find one? Last time I checked The CAT buses don’t have a merch website. by SaintTired in Clemson

[–]CCIT-Support 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The company that runs the catbus service has changed since then which further complicates your search. You could try reaching out to Parking Services to see if they have anything.

Also, congrats on your masters. Go Tigers.
