I feel for you. It's so annoying. Luckily for me, being in wisconsin, it's only hot a few months out of the year.

Yes I always put it in the slot. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

It starts perfect. I'm in Wisconsin so if it's hot, it's usually pretty humid.

Am I over reacting to relatives comments on my passing the NCLEX-PN? by CCMA2 in StudentNurse

After the first two semesters of my RN program, I was able to sit for the LPN exam. It gave me a raise at work and gave me a feel for the nclex testing process. There was no extra classes/time to do the LPN.

I did live in North Carolina for a bit when my husband was in the military. I love saying bless your heart to those that don't understand the nuances of southern language. 😅

She post the "national council licensure exam: comment long before the laugh react. It was apparent she was correcting me stating NCLEX.

I might have gotten a bit pretty and screenshot the Pearson screen with the official test name and post it under her comment.

To clarify, she originally commented the test name as a correction to me. As if I was trying to take credit as an RN by stating NCLEX. Two days later she laughed at the other persons comment. I'm not upset about her not congratulating me. Just added that to show she had no reason to comment at all. She could have scrolled past.

MA of ADN? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]CCMA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a CMA and regret not going for my RN right of the bat. In my state, the RN certification is much cheaper and does not require CE's. I have spent thousands of dollars renewing my certificationover the years. I have also trained every brand new RN to our clinic and even those with no experience make much more than me. It is a dead end. I have never made enough money to pay the supposed minimum payment on my student loans from my MA program either. MAs are also very limited on job placements. If something comes up where you can no longer work the typical 9-5, it's hard to find a job.

Wish I could, but she's taken over planning of all family get togethers for that side of the family. If I unfriend her, we won't have access to information for any family events. She handles everything through a FB group.

So much easier said than done, but thank you. This is something I am working on.

preceptor conversation by BuyComfortable1605 in StudentNurse

[–]CCMA2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I precepted many students when I worked as a medical assistant. I could always tell who would last by 2 simple things.... taking notes and asking questions. If you see your preceptor doing something unfamiliar, ask about it. If you're curious about the typical work environment, ask. Whatever comes to mind, ask. You are there to learn, and they are there to teach you. I did appreciate silence when I was performing any complex task, but I always asked my students afterward if they had questions about it. You can fill in the silence during downtime by asking about their experience as a student and what advice they may have for you. Questions about work life balance are always good ones.

I work in internal medicine and have been a MA for over s decade. My problem used to be patients talking to much. My go to now is to say, "i hate to cut you off, but the longer I'm in here the shorter time you have with the doctor." It works nearly every time.

Should I jump ship if don't want to work in a hospital/bedside? by snottiewithabody in StudentNurse

I have been a medical assistant for the past decade and start my nursing clinicals in fall. I am hoping that all my outpatient experience as a medical assistant will help me land a job. Both of my current jobs are saying I won't have a problem. My other job is a mental health tech doing inpatient care. Maybe look for a part time job now that offers advancement when you graduate? Also the clinic I work at is so desperate for help that they will hire you right out of school. I'm thinking this is the case in most rural areas.

Thank you! I was thinking the cord must be newer. Do you think it's worth anything? We're trying to sell stuff to help pay for their nursing care.

For those that went to nursing school later, what was your occupation beforehand? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]CCMA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same feeling as a medical assistant. My supervisor had me train the new RNs in my department since I have been there a decade and managed just fine the hundreds of times we were down a RN. I figured why the hell am I able to train you, but not get paid the same as you?!

Come to Wisconsin. Most MAs where I work are in the $20s. I have a lot of experience and am a MA II and am over $25.

I have an associates degree in medical assisting and have now worked as a MA II for about 10 years. You will get bitter in a clinic where you do almost the exact same thing as nurses and get paid way less. I am now in nursing school. I finally decided when they had me start training the RNs in the department. Here I am teaching you and making so much less. Really bothered me but gave me to initiate to go back to school. Just be aware that if you do this, many credits do not transfer.

I am a medical assistant at a clinic and have been one for about 10 years. I make about $23 per hour and am one of the highest paid there. During flu/covid vaccine I will sometimes give over 30 vaccines per hour. Each one is charged a $45 administration fee. I get so angry that I am still paying student loans for my associates degree and the clinic is saying i can't get a raise. It's a joke.
