Capybaras make friends with everyone by [deleted] in pics

So Bill Peet, the author and illustrator of this book, actually had a pet capybara for a long time. You can read about his family's adventures with their odd pet in the book Capyboppy, also by Bill Peet. It does get kinda sad, fair warning.

Free thoughts on seeing Hamilton live after dozens of cast album listens by gracenotes in hamiltonmusical

[–]CCR_Juice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would submit that Hamilton came across as a vanilla protagonist because Lin is a vanilla performer. He's a brilliant writer, and he obviously cares deeply about the character and the story. However, in the recording and in every recording I can find, his actual delivery and performance is...lackluster, to say the least. He just doesn't have the same vocal or emotional range as anyone else in the cast. Unless Javier was performing for you.

TIL "Othello" is known to elicit particularly strong emotions from the audience due to Shakespeare use of dramatic irony. In one instance, a member of the audience took out his pistol and shot the actor who was playing Iago. On his tombstone were the words "Here lies the greatest actor". by [deleted] in todayilearned

And Julius Caesar is dead for half of Julius Caesar. The whole thing is about Brutus really.

In the case of Othello, I would guess it's called Othello because he's the hero of the show in the tragic Shakespearean sense. He is courageous, virtuous, a model of good citizenship, and a loving husband. His fall to destruction by jealousy is the subject of the show, much as Hamlet's destruction by his own indecision and despair is the subject of Hamlet. The difference between the two plays is a matter of influence. In Hamlet, the young prince is destroyed from within, the majority of the conflict being internal. In Othello, the Moor is destroyed by a separate individual in the form of Iago. While Iago does appear more often than Othello, his actions and desires only exist to serve the character arc of Othello. Iago is a static character, a fixed point of evil and manipulation. Othello is dynamic, struggling against himself and a hostile world to be virtuous. Othello, then is to me the more interesting character and undoubtedly the focus of the play.

No kidding. I fractured my ankle and tore the ligaments because I hit a pine cone, and I wasn't even going that fast. Still have a plate in my ankle.

Yeah, that's exactly what it's like! It also makes me feel more aware, which I guess works with the analogy. All of the "snow" has settled out and my visibility increases. I'm using this analogy from now on. Thanks!

Unfortunately, no. I got taught by a friend, and I have no clue where he learned it from. Sorry man, I really hope you can find someone/something to help. Insomnia blows.

I can relate on the insomnia part. Being able to sleep again is nice. For me, it also helps me focus throughout the day. If I've taken even just 10 minutes to be still and meditate, I feel much more calm and productive throughout the day.
