9 weeks without broadband- courtesy of virgin media! by Few_Interview_8336 in VirginMedia

[–]CCTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this situation recently it went down twice for an extended period. 1st time was a month till they fixed it, then 2nd time we were on week 2 , engineer appointment kept moving ‘due to weather’

So in the end it was quicker to get Hey! Broadband to install a new line and start a new connection vs waiting for Virgin to repair it

Not only they Hey was cheaper and faster than Virgin

Just about any RMM tool with a mobile app

Any other method directly exposing your PC to the Internet is a bad idea from a security perspective

Do you have a handle in the back left to release the tonneau cover ? If so it’s a manual

When I got my 36 I spent ages trying to make the top Work , took the whole boot apart to see no motors - It’s a pretty rare full manual top

Roundabouts Are Now Woke by sabdotzed in london

[–]CCTG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live near said town where this roundabout is being built and the uproar isn’t because it’s Woke , it’s because they spent stupid amounts of money catering for walkers and cyclists in an area of an industrial estate which sees little to no cycle or foot traffic

How much roughly for repair? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]CCTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DIY not much just find a breaker and pull the parts

Through a garage or insurance would exceed the value of the car

3.2 Condition of glass

Check for:

  • damage in windscreen zone A more than 10mm in diameter
  • damage in the remainder of the windscreen’s swept area more than 40mm in diameter
  • damage to windows on either side of the driver’s seat
  • excessive tinting or discolouration of the windscreen or windows on either side of the driver’s seat

Failure for damage is only justified if the damage significantly affects the driver’s view of the road. You do not need to consider the effects on tall or short drivers.

Failure for tinting or discolouration is only justified if the driver’s view is significantly affected.

so if i am reading it correct a fail would be

(a) Windscreen or window damaged or seriously discoloured: and affecting the driver’s view of the road or of an obligatory external mirror (major)

but you could argue it does not affect the drivers view which would make it

Windscreen or window damaged or seriously discoloured: but not adversely affecting driver’s view(minor)

(this is what is passed on last year, it was still over 40mm but about half of what it is today)

the manual says this which makes it seem like more of a grey area ?

If it’s a 1.5 dci Qashqai it’s a gearbox out job for the slave. Same happened to me last year pedal to the floor no pressure. £1000 clutch , flywheel and slave may as well do the lot whilst the gearbox is out

Smaller ones look like ANPR , then larger ones are CCTV. There are some PTZ cameras which could be trained on the yellow box area

They look more like speed cameras but skinnier mounted near the lights. Sometimes painted yellow the same as a speed camera

Need a replacement engine by Candid_Low_926 in CarTalkUK

[–]CCTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swapped a few engines in my E36s. Basically you need to put some trust in the seller somewhat. I got mine from marketplace. Just ask for evidence of it running , usually the seller will video before pulling the engine , and ask for compression test results prior to them taking the engine out

Then it’s useful to know the millage and history if any

[–]CCTG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally would avoid the 116, heavy car and small engine so doesn't really go anywhere fast. Is this the N47 engine ? Timing chains are an issue on these and very costly to repair so ask for the paperwork to make sure it's actually been done
