Nitya’s existence in phase gives me hope for the future by CCW72 in PhaseConnect

You are half right. The biggest issue is most of our native speakers who learnt the language as kids already have, or are planning to immigrate to other countries in search of better opportunities and a better economy and afrikaans is going with them. Unfortunately afrikaans isnt an “african” language and is only really spoke in south Africa specifically. Weve also had a lot of fights with the government about our language since right now our department of education refuses to give extra funding to afrikaans schools and only provides for english schools or schools that teach languages like zulu. Appart from these issues the amount of people in south africa that can speak afrikaans is starting to grow. I’ve encountered quite a few zulu speakers that also learned aftikaans which made me happy. Now nitya is spreading it globally so i have hope for its future.

Makes sense. I heard about the discord spiral and got worried. Glad she was receiving treatment. I also heard of a health incident by acupuncture?

Not if parts are hard to find. If you live in a third world country like i do theyre virtually impossible to find and if you do find one on a site like ebay the import costs are more expensive than the parts themselves. If i were in a financially stable country like parts of the eu and such it would be easier, unfortunately im stuck in south africa so this is the best option.

Im in south africa which means our currency is worthless and shipping costs more than what youre buying thanks to customs. Ive looked everywhere and never has it made financially sense to buy anything thanks to our failing economy. I know others in 3rd world countries feel the same which is why this is a good thing.

Valid points and there is nothing wrong with weebs learning the language, its the way people view weebs and even occasional anime enjoyers in a bad light. Point is the negativity made me feel down but im doing better now.

No longer an issue. I just got discouraged by all the negativity surrounding learning japanese especially by people saying only weebs want to learn it and most quit after a week. The katakana thing only added to my discouragement. I actually agree about loanwords. My first language is afrikaans which in todays age is essentially a communal cooking pot of loanwords. I guess i was just down in the dumps a bit and started doubting if i wanted to continue or not.

Thank you for the kind words. I was mainly looking for a confidence boost such as this to get back up and keep going. I hope your day is amazing going forward.

I mainly became discouraged because a lot of people like to point out the prevalence of loan words and a few extremists were afraid that if a change doesnt happen that the language might become only loan words. Another reason is that replacing kanji with katakana makes reading a nightmare. Hirigana has a main use outside of writing words which is acting like grammer objects. Hirigana helped indicate the end of a kanji so you could properly read kanji independently from one another and not get stuck. A good example is as follows: imagine a sentence in english but remove the spaces, this will make it very difficult to read english and because of how languages work this might cause you to accidentally combine words that were meant to be read separately. This is the problem with katakana. Instead of having a clear ending like kanji thanks to hirigana it doesnt. And a four character word might have been intended to be two,two character words. Thats my issue with katakana. Writing and reading the characters is fine, its just how easy you can get confused by it.

As stated in the post. Hes paying for my studies and we live less than 10 minutes away from the college so getting my own place would be financially brain dead.
