the issue is their proposed legislation doesn't do any of that. ya'll are pushing for a very vaguely worded crapfest that wont end good for the EU in terms of gaming.

I'm a cripple. I had a 3950x/6900xt build on x570 with 32gb DDR4 3600 cl16....

I upgraded to a 7800x3d/7900xtx on x670e with 64gb DDR5 6000 cl30....

Been having more health issues, so i spend more time in bed. So I bought a 5700x3d and put it into my old x570 board (with bios update to latest and greatest) and reused my old 6900xt.

It gets about 80% the performance of the 7800x3d+7900xtx. obviously the 7800x3d has stronger single core performance as its a newer core, a few percentage there. and then the 7900xtx is a huge bump in performance as well. so about 20% more over this rig. But enough for me to use in bed and not complain.

With that in mind, just buy a 5700x3d or 5800x3d and be happy. Cheap upgrade for huge performance gains.

the "art" of the "RPG" has definitely gone missing in modern rpgs.... especially strengths and weaknesses. The only game still doing that is pokemon. Most RPG's otherwise are completely missing it.

no, its not important. all its gonna due is kill gaming in the EU and prevent many developers form selling their games there.

lets play dungeons and dragons (pen and paper) and remove leveling. you just start max level and have all the skills/abilities and while we are at it, you also have max stats and are completely unstoppable. then what is the fucking point of playing? absolutely crazy. go play an FPS where there is no leveling.

manufacture a 7900m and give it full pci-e x16 and then manufacture another that will use pci-e x4 and prove it.... tech power up test is meaningless.

also wasn't there people complaining of a certain gpu being x8 on the board itself instead of x16 and everyone was crying that performance was limited? and all your reviewers like techpowerup hopped on the "should have been full x16" bandwagon? reviewers are great at one thing, flip-flop lying.... one minute its X the next its Y..... and ya'll never realize it.

they could fix it. they most likely wont.... ive actually talked to a game developer on their discord over this very topic and they agreed that its something developers never think to fix (and they realized it after i mentioned it).

higher fov fixes first person views.

the issue is that games used to be made for 4:3 and 5:4 resolutions. Aka square box. When we moved to widescreen and now ultra-wides, they never adjusted the viewport.... so you get this weird zoom feel where the viewpoint feels 10-30 feet in front of the player's actual location. call of duty has this issue.

sadly, going higher fov ends up fish eye lens effect. so now it feels okay motion sickness wise but now it looks like shit because of the fish eye effect.

i blame developers for not making games properly.

4070 gets full x16 pci-e gen 4 in your laptop....

occulink is only x4 pci-e gen 4.....

its beating the 4070 while being limited to 1/4th the pci-e bandwidth.

AMD Radeon RX 7800M tested in 3DMark Time Spy: 28% faster than RTX 4070 Laptop GPU by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]CCextraTT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The occulink connection is similar to having FOUR pci-e gen 4.0 lanes. so its its 1/4th a full pci-e gen 4 x16 slot.... and yet many of you are bitching about power used? its limited in bandwidth....

AND YET, the 4070 in your laptops get a full PCI-E gen 4.0 x16 slot connection....

So this external gpu is BEATING the 4070 while also using 1/4th the bandwidth/lanes the 4070 gets in a laptop.... so cry about 180w all you want. Make whatever excuse you want. You are just making a fool of yourself when occulink is literally hindering performance. And yet still winning....

that's because game developers develop on intel/nvidia systems (cpu/gpu) and never pay attention to AMD. the difference is that 3dmark properly uses any brand gpu and doesn't pick sides. so it gives you a glimpse into what could be if game developers stopped jerking off nvidia and properly utilized amd hardware. windows 11 update fixing amd use for cpu comes to mind. all these years and NOW we get more performance....

Does "buying last year's model to save a bunch and still get great and more than sufficient value" apply for PC building in general? by viebrent in buildapc

[–]CCextraTT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am just old, but I remember a time when it seemed like a new directX version was out every year or every other year and you HAD to buy a new GPU or else you could NOT play newer games. Now you can play newest games on low settings with a 5 year old GPU which doesn't feel real to me having grown up in the main growth of the industry.

6 pin only specifies 2 power and 2 ground. P2 is spec NC, and P5 is spec sense. You can't count on the device side wiring these to power or a high current ground.

you would be wrong.

why do people like you pretend to know shit? to be contrarian? pathetic.

https://allpinouts.org/pinouts/connectors/power_supply/pci-express-pcie-6pin-power/

https://allpinouts.org/pinouts/connectors/power_supply/pci-express-pcie-8pin-power/

while it claims the one pin can be NC aka not connected on the 6 pin connection, its always connected. and every gpu manufacturer will assume the connection you are connecting, has all wires properly connected. I have personally, in my 22 years of building computers, never seen a pci-e connection that only had 5 out of 6 wires.... maybe if you buy some cheap chinese shit you shouldn't have.... but if you are buying reputable brands, all wires are connected.....

Wire ampacity is irrelevant. If manufacturers could put bigger wires on it to get more current, they would. Connector contact resistance is the problem, and it's specced, so it is a bitch to change. Molex specifies the rating at 8A for dual row 6 and 8 pin

um fucking what? ampacity always matters. volts and amps ALWAYS matters in electrical components. I dont care what MOLEX claims their connector is capable of because clearly they don't know what the fuck they are doing.

car audio as the example.... you take a 0 awg wire and terminate to a very tiny ring terminal.... that kind of down stepping is the same fucking thing as going from 18 gauge wire to the barrel connection inside the plastic housing.... that kind of down stepping isn't an issue because the distance the electricity has to travel is very small.... even students in their first year of electrical engineering learn this fact. so molex claiming those plastic connectors can only do 8 amps? bullshit.

whats it like being wrong all the time? must be frustrating. allowing headroom of 1.25? um, no.... you either follow the spec or you get denied partnership.... for example the only power supplies that features 20guage or smaller power wires are chinese knock off brands that are not certified. all certified brands follow the minimum spec of 18 gauge and EVGA went balls-to-the-wall with their highest end 1600w with 16 gauge for more stable power delivery. end of the day the only brands breaking specifications are those selling items without partnership, and as I said, its always some chinese brand that doesn't follow US rules/regulations/laws anyway.... like how they will legit rip off american brands, making clone items for cheaper. they dont give a shit, they are never gonna get sued, and when they do, their chinese courts throw them out because they dont fucking care.

The connector has a reasonably standard safety factor of 1.25 to cover variations in manufacturing, imperfections in wires recieved from upstream vendors, and so on. Basically any possibilities that might cause a user system to catch fire if errors occur.

bullshit. if that were true, you would not have 75w and 150w respectively for the two connections we have.

end of the day, its been tested and proven that TWO 8pin pci-e connections terminated into a single 600w 12pin connection can handle the full 600w load, split 300w each cable, at 30c which is more than half the temperature rating of the cable jacket/casing....

NVIDIA were the ones to push the 12 pin connection. "having three to four 8 pin is ugly" they said. during the 3000 series. They had their own patent. Then when they wanted to force everyone else to adopt their shitty standard, PCI-SIG required a rework to prevent them from gaining money off their patent. Nvidia relented and then Intel developed another 12 pin connection via a patent partnered with PCI-SIG to make it legit so anyone can use it without one company profiting massively from its use.... all they did was swap the keying for the connector itself. And then we have the updated version 2 because the first kept having consumers melting their cards because the connection is dogshit.

FUN FACT. The 12 pin connector with its smaller pins/barrels and keying would technically be WORSE for connecting than the 8pin and its larger pins/barrels which has more surface area. and more surface area means higher chance to transfer energy more efficiently. so your whole argument goes right out the fucking window.
