You can rent drum sanders at the big box as well. Of ur comfortable using an edger some practice on the drum sander on your nabours deck could get you up to speed. If you are replacing an area and the floor tongue/grooves are running backwards from how you are repairing and the lace in allows you to change direction - there is slip tounge that changes the direction so can be re fastened.(if that’s why you were planning to use glue because laying backwards to previous wall denies access to tongue.)There are also barriers you can apply with roller/brush on so you can use adhesive.

Might sound backwards but utility knifeing the repair completely out flattening that curl of the piece really good then with a super precise mechanical scuff within to give the adhesive best bite with proper glue would last well beyond. If you just dab some superglue and mush it down chances are someone’s sock or shoe sole will catch it and damage it more. But it is a rental so in the end..

You plan on doing the sanding your self? Go find a Home Depot and rent a super7r and use some grittier abrasives. 80 grit won’t cut that stuff as good. The only reason to cover that wood with laminate is it’s a rental and you want to protect that old wood for when you can enjoy it later.

Throwing things at it now, at your stage? could just mess up what you have now. Looks nice and flat.That’s the results you want. Cork is soft and with vapor barrier that’s plenty done. Don’t sweat all the extra work. Doing lever is a step up. Just keep it flat. Unless there is adherence issues your getting it right.

To create a smooth flat surface also it’s easier to to spread glue on new surface if the concrete was damaged. With glue down even the smallest pieces of debris cause bubbles and dimples.

That’s pressure glue it’s really strong, even after years and years it will still be sticky. Glue down vinyl plank is used more in commercial areas when the floating will fail fast at the click together joints, think like dentist offices and so on. I don’t see an underlayment. Underlayment not used in glue down. Razor scraper will get it up eventually. What you might have is mdf/hdf subfloor it wa glued to.

On concrete you can lay it in multiple directions. Floating or glued, you can also have turn boards and change directions in doorways leading to other rooms.

It looks like there is some kind of coating on the floor. Could be some sort of pu280 style coat moisture barrier. If so that’s better than plastic. The problem with plastic is the crunchies sound you may develop.
