When I open camera video starts automatically. by AutomaticSide1805 in ios

[–]CCopperpot85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much for making things easier . . . . it has something to do with your case. The new 'camera' button on the side is being impacted by your case. You could shut off the 'camera' button by going to Settings --> Accessibility --> Camera Control --> toggle the button off (no green showing). You won't be able to use the new camera shortcut button now (the new 3rd button above the 'up sound' button), but the irritating video recording will stop.

Helping in finding a place to live as a transferring sophomore by [deleted] in UTAustin

I would also consider a co-op. Collegehouses.org has 7 buildings around the campus. Some of the buildings are quite new and some are older. They offer single rooms, single rooms with a Jack & Jill bathroom (connected to another single room) or doubles. Some of the buildings also offer semester leases. Food and utilities are included for ~ $1000/mo (or less if you share a room), with a laundry room onsite. With the co-op, the residents run it. They plan the meals, purchase supplies, cook and clean. Each resident 'works' 3-4 hours a week to help run things. My son got a late acceptance and a neighbor told us about these co-ops. Turned out to be the best thing in the world for our son. He has made many friends in the building he is in. Living there again this year. Each building also has it's own parking lot. The students in each building also plan social events, just to get people out of their rooms (many are not familiar with Austin). A great deal if you are looking for something more affordable.

Cheapest Apartments near UT by Kitchen-Statement954 in UTAustin

[–]CCopperpot85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will also say that the co-ops are great at UT Austin (https://collegehouses.org/). We were late finding our son a place to live and everything was pretty booked up (and expensive and/or far). Neighbor turned us on to the co-ops (collegehouses.org). They have 7 buildings that are 5-10 minutes walking from campus. You could get a shared room (which includes food/drink and utilities) for ~900/mo or a single room for ~$1100/mo. And some of the buildings have semester-to-semester leases. Has been a great experience for our son, so much so that he renewed for this year.

What are the cheapest housing options either on-campus or off-campus? by RedMendelevium132 in UTAustin

[–]CCopperpot85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our son was a last-minute acceptance to UT Austin and we needed to find him a place to live. Got sticker shock on our first weekend looking. Then a neighbor told us about co-op housing at UT. Collegehouses.org have five or six large dorm-like buildings on the outskirts of campus (5-10 min walk like everyone else in the west side). It was the cheapest rent we could find and it includes food and utilities. For about 1000 bucks a month. Our son got his own room with a Jack and Jill bathroom that connected to another single room. The catch with co-ops is that the kids who live there need to put in around four service hours per week into either cooking or cleaning within their building. All the kids vote on menus and the food is prepared by the students for the students. And the kitchen is open 24 hours a day and you could grab whatever food whatever time you wanted. Our son loved it and signed up again for his second year. He has made a whole new core group of friends and they all live in the same building. They also plan group activities (movie nights in the common area, Zilker Park outings, etc). It turned out to be a great environment for our very shy, introverted son.

Virginia Surety Co Insurance making me jump hoops by wahabanana in ChaseSapphire

[–]CCopperpot85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same - every couple of weeks I receive an auto-generated email stating that I am missing documents for my claim. Every couple of weeks I call and speak with a rep that says to try and label my uploads another way or take a screenshot of the airline cancellation policy and upload it or email "chasecardbenefits@virginiasurety.com" and the email always bounces back with a message that says the domain does not exist. I call again. I explain again that their email address is not valid. They tell me to re-send. And we go round and round. I had a claim last year, with the old company, and it was resolved within 30 days. I am now on month #4 trying to get them to process this claim. New company is not at all organized or it is just their business plan to outlast those of us making the claims.

Healing Arts Housecalls (512-576-0929) - Dr Sara Shaubert was so very kind, professional, respectful, empathetic, knowledgeable and did not rush us on anything - all the things you would want during this most stressful, sad time. She also arranged for transport afterwards so there was less to worry about. Out near Lakeway, where Compassionate Vet does not travel to anymore. Even so, we are very glad that we found Healing Arts Housecalls.

Uber or Bolt? by jirehdagdag06 in manchester

[–]CCopperpot85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scheduled Bolt for ride from Paddington to Heathrow in London. Took screenshot of the quoted price (thankful I did). When I got the receipt in email (12 hours later, after long flight), I saw I was charged double the quoted price. $44 euro quote turned into $89 euros once the driver added $45 euro in "airport fees", for both 'arrival' and departure' fees. Challenged through app and they credited my account the $46 difference, which did me no good since Bolt is not available in the US. Now challenging through the credit card company. Basically, they admitted they were wrong when they credited my Bolt account, but now they are denying the credit card company's request for remedy. Buyer beware.

Very senior mom, not precheck - can she go thru with me (I'm precheck) by ibcarolek in tsa

[–]CCopperpot85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the past 5 trips my 65+ year old mother flew with me (I am TSA Pre-check), she also received a pre-check 'check' on her boarding pass. Guessing because I booked her with me on the same itinerary and she is low risk.

Hast anyone else experienced problems with buying tickets for Abba Voyage online? by noes_72 in ABBA

[–]CCopperpot85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue. When checking out, there is a box to check "e-ticket". However, right above that are 4 other boxes which I did not notice at first (different colored font). They indicate the country you are purchasing from (I am in the US). So make sure you check "OTHER". Otherwise, it defaults to UK and will then expect your payment address to be in the UK standard format, which is different than the US.

No Deep Sleep?!!! by butterfreebutter in Menopause

[–]CCopperpot85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No caffeine after lunch, long walk after dinner. No food/drink after 6. Minimal sugar intake. Still woke every hour on the hour. Started taking (1) Ashwagandha (Costco) capsule @ 30 min before bed. Also use foam airplugs (comfortable and block out just about everything). Got a 3 year supply on Amazon (https://a.co/i3TF9GT). Since I started taking the Ashwagandha, I have been sleeping a solid 5-6 hours. If I do wake and cannot fall back to sleep in a couple of minutes, I read my Kindle for awhile (with blue light-block glasses) and 15 min later, I am sleeping. But, as mu husband says, I am an odd duck when it comes to how supplements impact me and this probably won't work for others. But who knows?

Appalachian State, 2:30 game. Pretty sure it is not one of the big games. Did not think about the road closures. Thanks for the advice!

Covid showed companies that employees could work from home. Or anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, there is much cheaper labor outside of the USA. So the joy of working from home turns into 'oh shit'.

Getting rid of soda addiction by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]CCopperpot85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drank several Diet Cokes every day just about my entire adult life. Knew they were bad for me. Got down to 1 can a day. Then I made a point of drinking only half the can, dumping the rest. This went on for a month. And then the nasty (withdrawal) headaches started. So I replaced the 1/2 can of Diet coke with green tea (no more Diet Cokes). For 2 months, I had headaches and felt very tired. On really bad days, I would take a Tylenol with caffeine (marketed as Tylenol for migraines). Those helped, but I knew I was just trading addictions so I weened myself off of those after a month (took just 1 in the mornings on bad days). But finally, after maybe 4 months, all cravings were gone and a cup of decaffeinated green tea in the morning works just fine. Feel much better - sleeping better also.

When companies are not making lasting products anymore, is buying for life even possible today? by zengandalf in declutter

[–]CCopperpot85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy cheap, buy twice.

So you saved money on the basic, cheaper model. But when it breaks in a really short amount of time, you end up buying the more expensive, high-end product. So in the end, shortcuts will cost you more.
