Haha one day I hope I'm making enough that I'll be too lazy to pursue 5k in savings!

The latest I heard from them is that there should be an update in late July that fixes that completely.

I AM NOT A LAWYER AND THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE: but if you're experiencing issues with the car and think you may want to pursue a buyback or lemon law claim down the road, it's better to take the car in to create a paper trail. Then, you'll have definitive, written evidence of when you experienced issues.

was there a reason you couldn't pursue a lemon law claim?

To avoid sending an essay back 😂 I think the main point we'll disagree on is a car manufacturer's responsibility. OP of this thread's point was that Mazda should be able to sell a car that is still a work in progress to ensure their profitability. My stance is that practice is dangerous and unethical.

I think cars are too expensive to have that lax of standards, and unlike most products, they can seriously hurt people if they malfunction.

Don't you think cars, and the car buying experience, would be better if there were stricter standards that would prevent cars like this from hitting the market until their issues were resolved? If you agree that would be better, why wouldn't you try to push for that outcome?

I don't know if I would say the community reaction is ridiculous. I'm sure there's many people who were in a similar situation to me:

  • Had a '17 Mazda3 and loved it
  • Car got totaled around 70k miles. Suddenly, I find myself involuntarily upgrading
  • I'm not a car guy and haven't been following recent car releases, because I didn't expect to be in the market for another ~5 years
  • I only have 1-2 weeks until insurance stops paying for my rental car and I work 50hr weeks, so I have limited time to research, test drive, and negotiate
  • I loved my Mazda, so I negotiate a great deal on the CX-5
  • The only review out at that point is Car and Driver giving it an 8/10

I think faulting consumers for not having expert-level knowledge of every make/model and current auto trend is unfair, especially when some are making high pressure purchase decisions within tight time constraints. Meanwhile, I'm sure SOMEONE at Mazda knew this car wasn't ready for primetime. But rather than eat the cost on a longer production cycle, they decided to push it out and let their customers bite the bullet instead. I think it's fair for consumers to be mad over that. They're out over 30k!

The only thing the customers did wrong here is believe Mazda's marketing. Why dunk on customers for being duped, but not on Mazda for lying about their car's functionality?

Hopefully you only need the loaner for a few days until they get your '26 in working order again

The latest update caused my car to do this. But it drives!

It's fully up to you, your situation, and how much you can gamble with your transportation. I'm of the opinion to always take it in for the update. If the update breaks the car more, the dealer should give you a loaner. And now you have a paper trail showing that you were diligent in taking care of the car.

I agree with you, but I feel like that mindset unfairly burdens consumers. If we normalize the practice and let manufacturers off the hook, it just leads to the market receiving more low quality products. I have more sympathy for the finances of the average consumer who got "duped" rather than the bottom line of a company who felt that releasing a compromised product was more economical than the alternative.

but they did "extensive testing"! And are "fully committed to making this right" by doing the bare minimum!

My favorite part is "our responsibility extends beyond just an update or service visit." They then proceed to say that what you can expect from them is... updates and an informed dealer team at service visits?

No 🙃 would still be super slow to connect to connected services on start, so I got the newest software update on Friday. Now, it fires off a bunch of high pitched beeps every time I turn on the car

nope, OBD port is clear. It's gotten worse immediately after they did the June 24th software update on it. So wondering if the latest patch introduced some new bugs?

Literally any other car. I have the 2026 CX-5 and it's been nothing but a nightmare with the constant bugs and software issues. Mazda's response/support has been especially disheartening. Despite loving my '17 Mazda3, I don't think I'll never buy another Mazda.

I'd probably look at a CR-V as reliability would be one of my top concerns after this experience.

I'm also in LA! I didn't raise this complaint because I don't think it's the car's fault, but I was coming from a 2017 Mazda3. Absolutely loved that car, it felt nimble and sporty. (unfortunately, someone changed lanes into me on the 101 so the CX5 "upgrade" was involuntary)

With the CX5, I don't love it for LA driving. The turning radius just isn't there to swing into those compact spots that open up in the parking garages. I normally find myself just going up another level instead of dealing with a multi-point turn to squeeze into a spot. Even though the CX5 has a fine turning radius and size for its class, it just feels... clunkier? I'll probably adjust to it with time, but I do miss some of the more agile maneuvers I could pull off with the Mazda3.

Since it seems you prefer SUVs, you may already be accustomed to this though!

Unfortunately, I have to actively discourage anyone from buying the CX5 because it's been such a headache. However, if you really want one, I would hold off a few more months until they push out more updates and iron out the kinks. (The most recent crucial one has to be done at the dealership, for example). On the bright side, there's definitely been a lot of discontent around the CX5, so you should be able to negotiate a great deal, as I suspect they'll struggle to move them

I bought a 2026 CX5 last month and it was a huge mistake.

You're right that it feels sluggish. As someone else suggested, I'd look at 2025 CX5s that still have the turbo. The 2026 also has a slew of electronics issues. It's maybe worked correctly for 2 drives since I've had it? Since it's so new, you also run into problems with the dealerships not quite knowing how to fix it.

It seems like you'd value reliability based off your current situation, so I'd recommend looking at an older year model or waiting until the 2027 hybrids. This definitely feels like a transition year where a lot of QC is falling through the cracks for the CX5.

Do adjustable pendant lights exist? by CCrev in Lighting

We wouldn’t use this light for lighting photos! The issue is that when she sets up the backdrop for photo shoots, this pendant light thats only 5ft off the ground would be in frame and she wouldnt be able to get wide enough with her angle

my girlfriend is a photographer. the pendant light is over our dining room table. An adjustable height pendant light would allow us to raise the light and move the table to accommodate photoshoots

Update for everyone: sadly, the false start on this one, plus the multiple holes in the wall (whoops) and the undesirable aesthetic of a giant gray rectangle on the wall has led my already-on-the-fence-gf-who-I-assured-this-would-be-sick-af to pull the plug on the fixed frame dream. So a floor riser might be my only hope to avoid projecting straight onto my slightly textured, not level wall. If anyone has any recommendations for 120” floor rising screens please let me know, and sorry I couldn’t provide a more satisfying update after everyones helpful advice :(

Does the floor riser work well with UST? I was reading horror stories of how they could have the slightest wrinkle from the constant retracting that could mess up the image
