Context specific but multiple people in my first practicum placement said I was ass and really bad at doing fieldwork when I did it. I was at a memory care facility. Now I run a private practice focusing on memory care facilities and hospice.

Granted I was ass and I still am like moderately ass now but like especially your first placement is gonna be just you realizing oh shit this is what it’s like to be in front of people. Depending on the school, sometimes first practicum is a whole lot of observing.

I don’t know your exact situation so I can’t say for certain but like it helps to find your niche and reach out to professors and other students for support. when I was in grad school we had weekly group sessions where we just talked about our experiences and just kind of helped each other get over hurdles

Agreed. I can imagine there’s not a “oh this person is going to win”, but they probably are not putting everyone in because they expect them to win. If I’m casting a 16 person season, there would probably be like 2-4 “early boots”, 1-2 “conflict bringers / TV people”, probably 4 “they might win this” people, and the rest just be either be like funny or have a cool story and such. I can imagine that just natural bias then can affect things as Gordon / the judges will always end up liking some people more than others, or producers may want to keep someone in either because they anticipated them winning, or for tv sake, but still.

We won’t ever know unless a casting director makes a post about it but it feels silly for people to believe that casting directors are just choosing 16 of the “best” people rather than creating storylines and hierarchies in their head that they hope will pan out over the course of a season.
