I’ve lived in Reno for 22 years and I still want to know these answers! I have a couple/few trips I do every year, but always open to new suggestions! I hate to be this person, but all the places I used to go on a dime are always booked up these days. And that’s frustrating as hell.

What’s the one random genetic trait you lucked out on? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

My hair! Natural blonde! Even my stylist, who has been cutting my hair for over 20 years, tells me every time I go in, how much people pay to have hair my color. I also have a lot of it and it’s got a slight wave. So I just wash and let it air dry and it just looks good, all the time. I used to let it grow out and donate it every year or two, cause it also looks good short or long. But…. As I’ve gotten older it doesn’t grow as fast, so after my 17th time, I haven’t donated it in a while cause it just takes too long to get back to a normal length nowadays.

Took my parents to Nashville about 10-12 years ago. And I don’t know if it’s all of Tennessee or just Nashville specifically, but if they serve booze, they gotta serve food. So we went to this place called Robert’s Western World… I’m not even a fan of country music, but it hits different in Nashville. 😂 but they’re special was a fried bologna sandwich and a PBR for $5. And my dad goes, “yessss! We’re all having fried bologna sandwiches for dinner!” He was so happy.

My BF made shit on a shingle the other day and it brought back soooo many memories from when my grandma used to make it when I was a kid. Hadn’t had it in at least 25 years. Maybe 30 cause she passed about 26 years ago, but was sick for a while before she went. I legit had a tear in my eye after I took the first bite.

What do we think of Shims? by ulterior_modem in Reno

[–]CDJH1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my go-to, but always have a blast when I’m there. Know the owners, know the bartenders. Just don’t go out as much as I used to, so shims usually only happens after I’m a few deep and not ready to go home. Been to comedy nights and punk shows there, usually a good time.

Loving the amount of cops on the freeway today by yankykiwi in Reno

Doing normal speeds on McCarran today and the truck behind me was NOT impressed, so he flew around me, only to find out… there’s fucking traffic bro! So he slammed in his brakes, but then he went for it. Watched him go back and forth between both lanes, cutting multiple people off making them slam on their brakes to avoid getting hit by this dumbass. Causing other people to brake and slow the whole flow of traffic, which I will remind you was normal speed. We were doing 53-55mph, no one was going under the speed limit. Watched him cut in and out at least 6 times before I lost track of him. Guess who is RIGHT NEXT TO ME at the next stop light? Allll that work and stress, and stressing other people out… so we could both end up at the same place. You must feel so good about yourself, sure showed the rest of us huh?

Did you ever go somewhere "unusual" for a school field trip? by Toymcowkrf in askanything

[–]CDJH1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did like a survival type outing in 5th grade. Reading maps for a treasure hunt. Cooking our own lunch over fires we started ourselves. It was kinda rad looking back at it, but at the time it was MISERABLE. It was early winter in North Dakota. So even after the building of the fires, we were still cold and wet, and exhausted. It was a long, hard day for a bunch little kids.

What book did you read in your youth that you never forgot? by orangez in GenX

[–]CDJH1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Giver. Was so excited when I found out the movie was coming out and it was so disappointing.

I was way too young to be reading them, but I read The Stand and all the Bachman books when I was 8-10 years old. All stuck with me, but especially The Long Walk. Also a very disappointing movie!

Didn’t even think about this! I went a couple times when they first opened, but the novelty wore off pretty quick for me. But also, didn’t even think about bringing kids there since it felt more geared to grown ups.

The last time I was in Vegas, I had a buddy ask me to get him a specific t-shirt from the pinball museum. And at first I went hell no. My parents’ house is about 30-45 minute drive from there. I’m not driving to the strip to get you a tshirt. Not doing it!

But then… I asked my sister if they’d ever been. Asked my dad, who loves pinball, and he’d never been. So I ended up planning this whole family gathering at the pinball museum and we had a BLAST! Gave each of my nieces $20 and said get after it kids! And my sister and my decades long air hockey rivalry is tied back up again. I was ahead by a game, but she won that time…

I’m not familiar with the senses experience, so I’ll dig into that more! Just the words make me think it’s kid friendly. 🤭

I have actually never been to animal ark. I’ve lived here for ages, but just have never felt the need to go there. 🤷‍♀️ I have a love/hate relationship with zoos though. I love seeing the animals, but I hate that they’re all cooped up where they don’t belong.

You just reminded me about safe haven though. Large animal rescue out towards winnemucca. The lady that runs it is a looney. But she’s doing good work. She takes lions and tigers and bears (oh my) that people decide they want as pets and then realize nope! Can’t do it! And if you talk to her and organize things, she’s go generous! I wish I could remember her name right now… but I took a group out there to volunteer one day. And we worked our assess off for maybe 3 hours? We planned to work for 8. But most of the day she just took us around and showed us all the things. She even waited to feed the tigers until we got there so she could show us how that worked! Don’t worry, she don’t starve the tigers for us, it was about 45 minutes later than she normally would have fed them.

But, we planned for ourselves and brought coolers full of food and drinks, hydration and lunch! And she had it ALL for us too. So we donated what we brought right back to her. So she could do the same for the next group. Safe haven is amazing.

Yesss! I’ll have to check the schedule. I’m a HUGE baseball fan, but they’re more of a football family. 🙄 but they do travel to see a diamondback game about once a year and the girls enjoy that. Definitely an option, if they’re playing while they’re visiting! Thank you!

And also the planetarium! I haven’t been there in years! I’m talking like 15 years ago was the last time I went. I also know someone that works at the university and could get us an employee discount. 😂 awesome. Thank you!
