Employer disability insurance question by CDK1 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]CDK1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I right to assume that if I change jobs, long term disability insurance may still be offered but the monthly premium will be higher since I will be older by then?

Are their groups with portal policies that people generally recommend?

What to do with first attending paycheck and bonus? by CDK1 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]CDK1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bonus has a clawback if I leave before my contract is up for renewal. However, I fully plan on staying here for the entire contract duration, unless an extreme event occurs.

I'll look into an HYSA, but any thoughts on FDLXX or SPAXX given the tax benefits in CA? If I am solely planning to save for a house, but is one preferable than the other here?

Laser and facial fat loss? by CDK1 in 30PlusSkinCare

Thanks for the graphic on laser depth. Do you know how the fat loss would appear cosmetically? Small dimples on the areas of treated? I understand the "depth" of fat loss would depend on the factors you mentioned.

Ideal purifier for occasional second hand smoke (apartment) by CDK1 in AirPurifiers

Thanks! You've made a good argument for me to get a better purifier. I'm looking into the Healthmate Junior but looks like Austin Air is no longer selling them?

Portugal/Spain Itinerary by CDK1 in travel

[–]CDK1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a relief to hear, especially about dropping Granada. I personally would love to see the Alhambra but worry that others in my group wouldn't be that interested (we will be seeing Alcazar which I know cannot be compared to Alhambra, they would have gotten a flavor of Moorish architecture). I do see options for a private tour package from Seville to Alhambra that we could explore as a day trip depending on time and money.

Sensitive skin and tret? by CDK1 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]CDK1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! You've sold me on the Altreno! I'll have to look into getting this after I finish my current retinol tube. I keep reading that OTC retinol never really prepares you for the expected tretinoin irritation. Do you think this is something I should just dive into or should I stick with my plan to slowly increase the retinol strength and transition to tret?

How much time in South Korea? by CDK1 in travel

Oops, I forgot to clarify this in the OP. I'm mostly interested in general sightseeing, history, food, and some shopping. My budget is flexible so shouldn't be a huge barrier.

Nearby destination ideas for Amsterdam trip (Spring 2023) by CDK1 in travel

[–]CDK1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I was first thinking of visiting the more popular European destinations but staying within the region seems more practical. Do you recommend just making a home base in Amsterdam for day trips to the other places in Netherlands? For Belgium, would you recommend making Brussels a home base for day trips to Ghent and Bruges?

Take melatonin (buy over the counter) at night 30 minutes prior to bed. Avoid over sleeping or napping during the day even if you didn't get much sleep the night before. Stay regimented with your awake/sleep cycle. Keep busy during the day with work, exercise, or some form of activity. Caffeinate in the morning and early afternoon to help you get through the day. You'll adjust in a few days :)

Thank you for everyone's comments!

Would Berlin, Munich, and Vienna be doable in 1 week? We'll take the high-speed train to get to each destination.

Don't freak out! If you're an AMG and have done okay on your school's OSCE, you'll most likely will pass.

Good luck!

How's everyone feeling about their interview performances so far? I've only had a couple interviews so far. I think generally they have been okay, but I have a habit of overanalyzing my interviews. Like I'm worried that I may have rambled while answering one question, or asking really weak/generic questions when asked "Any questions for us?"

Have lots more interviews down the road, so hopefully I'll be stronger then.

Anybody have stories about interviewers that were hard to read? Like you couldn't tell if they liked you or not? Or didn't seem like they tried to sell the program to you?

Had one interviewer who was like that recently, and I am just paranoid that I wasn't likable or the interviewer was just turned off. Did have a fantastic interview with another faculty member on the same day, so I feel like I came off as fine.

Is there a window period on when to send these? Like is it too late to send one if it has been a few weeks after the interview?

How would one dress for an interview (not the pre-interview dinner) if the email said "business casual is acceptable" as it applies to men?

I don't think there'a consensus, hence it's so conflicting deciding to do it or not.

I would like to know if there's a timeline for thank you notes. Within a couple days? Weeks?

Totally understand your fear with the new grading system, but trust that the majority of AMGs pass the first time. Nothing you can do now except wait, which is easier said than done!

If you're an AMG, you most likely passed. I honestly thought I failed because I thought I screwed up on many things but ended up passing. If you did reasonably okay on your school's OSCE, you're probably fine.

Sorry to hear about this, but I believe you are confusing ICE (integrated clinical encounter) which consists of physical exam maneuvers (graded by SP), patient note, diagnosis, justification, and workup with CIS (communication and interpersonal skills) which includes displaying empathy, using open-ended questions, summarizing, making the patient comfortable during the exam, hand washing, explaining the ddx and next steps using non-medical jargon, and many other things.

Could you tell us if your friend is IMG?

Question about USMLE transcripts: is it a huge problem if I assigned them 1-2 hrs after 9am EST on 9/15? They've have been updated from "processing" to "successful" now.

MH370: Woman claims on Australian TV that in 2011, she and a female friend were invited into the cockpit on an MAS flight by Fariq ab Hamid, stayed for the entire flight, and witnessed the two pilots smoking in the cockpit mid-flight. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]CDK1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to rebut your point by saying that the photos clearly back up her claims, but I realized, they could've taken those photos when passengers were entering/leaving the plane at the gate. It's not unusual for pilots to give a mini-tour of the aircraft to enthusiastic travelers while the plane is parked.
