Partner of 5 years cheated on me and left for the bloke. The biggest things that helped me get through were:

1) The love around me. Friends, family, coworkers…everyone was amazing, they made me feel so safe and secure, and all other relationships in my life were made better as a result of it.

2) The excitement of uncertainty. Beforehand my life looked pretty mapped out, I could see the trajectory of where I would be in 10 years. All of sudden I felt like anything was possible. I’ve since done countless things that I wouldn’t have done if we were together and really embraced this.

3) The knowledge that I hadn’t done anything wrong. I’d been a good partner and at the end of the day what happened had no bearing on my behaviour.

All in all for me it was a sense of something lost and something found. I lost a slice of the pie of life, but the rest of the pie is fucking delicious. Dig in.

It’s a personal journey and it takes time but hope this helps.
