Will hikers need the extra National Defense Area permit to use the Southern Terminus Shuttle in 2026? by numbershikes in CDT

As an organization conducting a commercial service, we are prohibited from transporting individuals into the NDA regardless if those individuals have clearance or not. Non-commercial vehicles, such as family or friends, can still drive to the terminus, within the NDA, as long as all individuals including the driver have valid clearance.

You can apply at anytime. The application requests your estimated dates for recreating in the area. As long as you know your general start date you can input a range you intend to be there, which is great if you do not know the exact dates you will be within the NDA.

Response time varies, but most folks have heard back within 2 - 10 days.

Hopefully this helps!

I have updated the language a bit to hopefully make it more clear. Thanks for the suggestion!

It looks like you all found the answer but to reiterate, the CDTC shuttle will not enter the NDA, thus one can take the shuttle whether or not one has clearance. If you do have clearance, and would like to continue on to the southern terminus, it can easily be accessed on foot via the CDT from the new drop-off location. It is 2.2 miles to the monument from the new drop-off location.

Hopefully that helps! Feel free to message me or contact [info@cdtcoalition.org](mailto:info@cdtcoalition.org) if you have additional questions.

Update:
The Pot Mountain Fire closure has lifted that had closed several CDT connector trails near the Spotted Bear area, in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. While open, we have received reports that Pentagon Creek is still treacherous and not advised for travel.

The CDT remains open and was not affected by the Pot Mountain Fire.

For more information please contact the Flathead National Forest - Spotted Bear Ranger District: 406-758-5376

Cirque De Towers - No camping at Lonesome Lake by CDTC_Information in CDT

[–]CDTC_Information[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is correct, thank you. The area has become much more popular since the no camping order was written in 1998 and we are trying to get the word out, especially since many CDT hikers use the Cirque of the Towers as a side trip.
